Finally the waffle decided
Bargain. No bag or mouse which is understandable for that price. -
Well, from where can I get an Asus backbag (ROG) ?
-
Asus estore. New model on sale for $30
ASUS ROG G1 Backpack -
ASUS ROG G1 Backpack is it good?^^
worth the 30 bucks? -

Before you order that backpack wait to until the computer arrives. The A1 model should always come with a backpack and mouse. Just wait a few days that way you dont have an unnecessary one. If you do end up ordering one the ROG G1 is an excellent backpack, thats the one they normally give you when you get one included.
-
thanks ^ more things that I need to know about the laptop? should I update bios? what softwares? upgrade?
Edit:
Someone bought from buy.com this laptop? did you get the backbag? and the mice? -
As stated earlier, the A1 ships with backpack and mouse.
-
Your purchase is not future proof. Just so you know, but for $1099, bargain.
-
Congrats waffleboy U got a Gr8 deal!
This may come in handy http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...rivers-everything-you-need-fresh-install.html
Did you get them to throw in any freebies? an SSD maybe?? -
tell me, do I have to update the BIOS? why do I have to? what will I get if I update it? (speed?performance?...)
about the SSD, I was thinking to buy Samsung's SSD 40GB~120GB (Can't decide what to choose... maybe 40GB ONLY for windows) -
Very pleased with my 96GB Kingston V+100 had no problems with it so far cheap and cheerful! -
Yea... but I want SATA III.
More comments? someone bought from Buy.com? got the backbag plus the mice? -
I'm using the intel 510 series ssd. It's sata 3 and doesn't have any of the problems that the sandforce based ssds have.
-
I was think to buy intel too... maybe I will buy, 510 with 40 GB
-

While most drives work fine with Asus computers, the Intel seem to be the most reliable. The 510 series would be a great choice. I'd go bigger then 40GB, you'll fill that up a lot faster then you think. Go at least 80gb, 120 preferably.
-
But I want only for windows, to install windows on it, that's all!
So.. 510 intel 40GB? -

The smallest Intel 510 is 120gb, it looks like the smallest SATA III SSD available is 60GB. OCZ makes a Vertex 3 in 60GB, i have one of those drives and have been very happy with it.
-
I'd say Intel 510 or Crucial M4, i have a M4 (in my desktop) and i'm very happy with it. It doesn't achieve the vertex's 3 speeds, but you don't run the risk of being one of the few users with the BSODs caused by the Sandforce controller on the Vertex 3s.
For my JH, i'll probably get an Intel 320 since it doesn't support SATA 6Gbps anyways.
Intel for reliability
Crucial M4 for a good balance between reliability and price
Vertex for raw speeds at the cost of potential issues
In the end, no matter what SSD you get, it'll feel ridiculously fast compared to a HDD. I'd consider 60GB the smallest size for the OS, 120GB for peace of mind and not having to bother with making sure that it doesn't get too full. -
what do you guys think about this:
Amazon.com: Crucial 64 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT064M4SSD2: Computers & Accessories
OR
Amazon.com: OCZ Technology 60 GB Agility 3 SATA III Sold State Drive AGT3-25SAT3-60G: Electronics
or you have some thing better to offer?
Umm... as I said, why do I have to update my Bios? what does it effect (speed, less bugs...?) -

I'd go with the Crucial because I've heard of less problems with their drives, as opposed to the OCZ drives. That, and the speed difference will be negligible.
-
alright, thanks! I wil buy soon

we have pretty much the same laptops (i ordered the XN1 for $900), and i bought a Crucial M4 SSD. Boot time to Windows 7 is 19sec, loading up my rainmeter skin takes it up to 25sec. Haven't done benchmarking but it's really snappy and that's fine for me (i somehow doubt we'd be able to perceive differences in SATAIII vs SATAII in everyday use, but nonetheless it's good to have).
For all those people who discourage people choosing smaller size SSDs, i really think that you need to put into perspective what is being installed. With most programs a normal person would use (see screenshot), I'm using less than 30gb of storage of my total 60gb. I have 30gb left for updates, and personal documents. I'm not gonna be installing games, so I think 40-60GB SSD really is ideal for a WINDOWS-ONLY install drive.
Includes Photoshop CS5 64-bit (only),Adobe Acrobat X Pro, All CS5.5 Plugins, All Microsoft Office Professional Plus programs, Windows Live programs etc.
Total Disc Space Used = 29.5 GB, and that's with 4.4GB of personal documents. It's safe to say that you can manage a majority of programs + windows into a 15-25GB install. -
The biggest factor with the SSD is the tweaking as well because you dont need System restore and most turn off the page file that saves a lot of space. Im glad I stuck with a cheaper smaller drive as there is little point having a costly 256GB SSD unless you are going to use all of the space. -
yea, that's true... that's why I want 40GB at last..
Just ordered Asus G53SW-A1 for 1099$...
