    Hi,

Every time I play a game (I have tried Starcraft 2, Natural Selection 2, COD) the game will stutter/lag for maybe 3 seconds randomly constantly. Sometimes it will happen every 10 seconds other times it will take a few minutes between stutters. I tried updating drivers aswell as system restoring but neither have helped. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

What hdd do you have? If you have any momentus xt installed you need to update the firmware to sd24.

turn off some background apps until the stuttering goes away, and/or disable non-essential hardware

I'd also suggest trying different drivers from the asus support site. (go to asus support, select notebook from the first drop down menu, then drivers, then vga. dont select your specific model, that way you get all the vga drivers available.)

If this guy fixed his problem I would love to hear how he solved it.

I am facing the exact same issue.

    Ditto.

DPC Latency checker is reporting peaks at 5k but I've tried disabling various non-essential hardware to no avail.

Update all your drivers including chipset, sound, video, wifi, everything. Clean out any unnecessary applications that are running in the background as chastity said. Check your power settings. Make sure your HDD isn't going into power saving mode while you are trying to game.

Check out unlocking core parking. Might be your issue. That is, if you did the above referenced items.

I had the exact same problem with my G73JH. After months (YES, months) of trying everything that has been suggested I found the problem to be the Momentus XT drives that I had installed. Replaced the original drives and no more stutter when playing games.

Did you replace them even though hard drive utility programs were telling you that they were fine? Since I currently suspect my drives to be the problem but all tests seem to indicate that they are in good health.

Yes, the harddrive utility told me that they were fine. Did you replace the drive(s) that were shipped with your G73 with Momentus XT drives? If so, you might want to replace them with the original drives, at least the one that will hold the OS, and see if you experience the same stuttering problem.

My laptop came with the Momentus XT drive and my system is stuttering. I'm considering buying a new hard drive to see if the Momentus is the cause..

From what I gather, you replaced your Momentus XT drive with another one, fixing the the problem, right?

Update the Momentus XT to the SD25 firmware. I have no stutter on the 2 systems that are using it.

Start disabling apps/hardware until it goes away. Update whatever causes it.

I've tried disabling devices but still cant seem to pin point the problem. Still occurs even after a fresh install and all my drivers are up to date.

I think it best to simply tell you what I have disabled. I'd like to note that I only disabled ones I deemed to be "non-vital" things as I'm no expert. Didn't want to risk things I wasn't 100% sure of.

I disabled audio devices, lan and wifi, bluetooth, some usb controllers and the bluray drive. All separately, playing a video file with each disable to check if the problem persisted (stutters during media playback, games and sometimes just in windows).

Stuttering doesn't happen when I play files from my external hdd. Which has me some what convinced it's the hdd at fault.

so you haven't disabled the cam, and the 8-1 card reader.

    1) What media player are you using?

    2) Have you updated the firmware on the HDDs?

    3) Have you force-updated the Intel INF? Update the RST SATA drivers?

If I remember correctly, I did disable the webcam. I haven't tried the 8-1 reader though. I'll give it a try.

Media Player Classic that comes with the CCCP codec pack. Tried the same file on the Divx Player. Also happens when I play music with foobar2000.

I have, twice in fact. First to SD24, no help. Then when SD25 was released. Again, no help.

I have forced the intel inf update with the -overall command as well as updated the SATA drivers.
