Hi all, I couldn't find the answer elsewhere.. I need your help desperately.

-My keyboard iscrazy ..It doesn't space correctly, it skips ahead and also goesback and deletes some text as though it has a mind of it's own. Very frustrating. Has taken me solong to write this post becauseof it. I keep going back to correct almost every word. :-(

Randomly highlights text and will delete it and also skips back pages Ihave been to recently when Ihit a key. IDEAS please!!! HELP!! Is it my Bios? novirus's.. clean key board. Nodriver updates :-(

What do I do, because I cannot keep going on this way.

I run on AC power without the battery since my system is on most all day. As I type this you can see the inconsistent spacing that happens on it's own. Ihave reset the keyboard to "default"settings , thinkingit would help, but it has not.

The way it highlightsand deletes what I have written is most upsetting. It can beas much as a paragraph gone in a blink!

thanks so much, Robin in NM

Hi Robin - Unfortunately, it sounds like you have a defective keyboard.

How long have you owned this laptop? If it is new, I'd recommend contacting the retailer to see if you can exchange it for a new unit or get a refund.

If you are beyond your retailer's exchange/return period, I would recommend performing an ASUS Factory Restore as a last attempt to avoid an RMA. Press F9 at the ASUS splash screen and choose the option to restore Windows to the 1st partition. Back up any important files on that partition as it will be completely overwritten.

Ack... I have owned this almost 2 years. Bought from GenTech. Complete restores are so painful..lol..I updated thetouchpad drivers but am not seeing any majorimprovement as you cansee from my post!

Wonder which new17" system I could buy? Shame every notebook I buy lasts 2years and them becomes problematic. Seems thenormal age limit.

If this behavior is a recent occurrence, try a Windows System Restore to a time before it occurred. Alternatively, you could try uninstalling the keyboard driver and let Windows replace it on a reboot.

You reported you updated the touchpad drivers. Is the cursor moving around erratically when you type? Does typing become normal when you disable the touchpad with Fn-F9?

hi! I already did a system restore to before the problem started.. Yes, it is rather a recent occurence and not associated with software or hardware installation.

Interesting that I cannot disable the touch pad with F9. I will try to uninstall the keyboard driver and let windows re-install on reboot.

The new synaptics driver has helped to a degree, in that the text is not highlighting and deleting itself as it was doing before. It seems the cursor wants to choose it's own place to be as I type at times. Very peculiar issue, indeed!

thanks again! Working on it and will let you know if I can fix it completely. Right now it is better, though not as it once was ... if I remember right, I've never cared for this keyboard anyway..lol

Erratic cursor movement during normal touchpad use (not when typing when your palms may be accidentally contacting the touchpad) typically results from bad grounding of the touchpad. Check out this thread from the referenced post: Troubleshooting ASUS G73 Touchpad Problems - Page 44

Note that @BrodyBoy reports that properly grounding the touchpad may not entirely resolve the issue. The touchpad may have been damaged by improper grounding.

Disable the touchpad in the BIOS. Many people including myself have suffered from erratic keyboard behavior unless we disable the touchpad in the BIOS.

I also recommend using the keyboard switches to disable to touchpad. I do this when working on papers and such to avoid randomly highlighting and erasing paragraphs with my palms (I usually have a usb mouse plugged-in anyway).

Edit: I should have read your posts, my apologies.
