Today I opened up my asus and removed the metallic tape from the touchpad so it wouldn't screw up anymore. Also cleaned out my keys. Everything works great except my keyboard lights are not turning on.

    Did I screw something up?

edit - Also, what wire effects the lights?
    edit - found this topic - http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...h-keyboard-backlight-dead-not-bios-issue.html

tried both sides but still didn't turn on. I did bend it a bit trying to put it back in, hope that didn't break it.

Anyone still on the forums that opened this thing before? Chastity, HeavenCry?

It's probably just a loose connector. You might try just disassembling the keyboard and touch pad and reconnecting everything again. It's also possible it's connected upside down.

Its no good. I tried re-connecting everything and nothing. Its not inserted the wrong way either. I still have my laptop opened still in hopes that I can fix this.

Also before anyone brings it up, I do have the latest bios (213) so that shouldn't be the issue. ATK drivers are on as well. I turn up the keyboard brightness (f3 and f4) and still nothing.

And now I'm starting to worry

edit - ok, so I decided to mess with the wires while the laptop was still plugged in and turned on (not smart maybe). It looks like pushing it and pulling it upwards turns the lights on but letting it go turns it off.

A short maybe? anyway, i'll try to adjust it.

edit - Yea, its loose somewhere. I can't keep it on. Maybe I can adjust it till its on and tape the thing or something :(

K, just wanted to say I managed to fix it using an interesting method. I cut some hard plastic so it would fit and lock in place where the backlight wire was. Looks like its hold pretty well.

Sounds like you nicked the plastic latch that held the cable down and the plastic helps it put the pressure on the cable it needs to.
