So Newegg and other have this SSD for sale
Newegg.com - Kingston SSDNow V+100 SVP100S2/96G 2.5" 96GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I am looking for other who might have used this one...

at $99 it is a heck of a deal for 96GB...

Is there any reason not to buy it?

This is the V+100 and not the V100

Max I need is 128GB and Min is 80GB.
this fits, unless someone can tell me why not to and offer a better choice.

I only 2 things on my G73, Surf the Interet and Play World of Warcraft.
THis looks like it would help both....

I have a 5200 RMP drive now that is working, but I rather not have moving parts now...

Heavy write cycles due to extreme garbage collection. Anandtech has a review of it late last year. It performed the best in the Heavy Storage Benchmark. Lowest idle watts.

    hi,

I just installed it in my desktop, the kingston SVP100S2/96g, my boot time is about 51% faster, launching applications doesn't seem noticably faster at all.

    Western Digital 500gb ( WD5000AAKS-65V0a0 ) hard drive before

    before SSD
    boot to desktop: 61.5 seconds

    after SSD
    boot to desktop: 31.4 seconds

It took about 45-minutes to clone the Western Digital hard drive to this SSD drive, I was pretty disappointed with that. and the performance isn't extremely noticeable unless I time things out with my stop watch, so personally I'm not thinking this was worth the money.

I think I would have gotten a much better bang for my buck with a Scorpio Black drive.

    Very Interesting....

I am sorry you are not seeing killer results.

I hope you applied for all the rebates? If so maybe you can sell it for retail price on Craiglist or something....

Couple points. 61 seconds to 31 seconds is 2x faster, not 50%. Next, if you're opening Word or Internet Explorer, it will not be much faster because those apps aren't difficult to open. Right now, you're probably comparing your speed to the best case scenario of when your apps are in ram. Those speeds are the same.

You absolutely will notice how good your SSD is when you go back to HDD. Or maybe not, but I did. I moved my Vertex from out of my desktop into my MacBook and I couldn't believe the slow speeds I used to live with on the desktop. So, the SSD will be a case of you don't know what you got til it's gone.

    Run "msinfo32"
Go to System Summary -> Components -> Storage -> Disks

Make sure your "Partition Starting Offset" is divisible by 4096 and you get a whole number.
Any NON-whole number means your alignment is off and that's why your drive is slow. My Kingston V+100 is doing great in my laptop. Kicking azz and taking names.

I just ordered this for my HP 2510P. It has to be an improvement over the 5400rpm Samsung that is currently installed. This is my third SSD application and I hope there is a significant improvement. I just checked the boot time for this laptop and it's 124 seconds! I might install XP instead of Win 7 Pro.

    Please post your feed back.

Maybe even take time measurments to compare before and after..

I am still on the fence... My 5400 rpm that runs at 5900 rpm is doing well for me..

    Yes helpful.

    For the OCZ 128GB drivers...

I know the SSD are 90% all better than HD with moving parts..
I am really just hopeing for a raise at work, or find something at home to sell in order to pay for this.

My boot time has dropped to 55 seconds from 124 seconds! The read and write times are coming up in the high 80's. The low read write times can be attributed to the ssd connection. The 2510p uses pata hdd and that is 1.8" whereas the Kingston is 2.5" so I had to use the dvd drive on a caddy. Plus the laptop is about two years old. At any rate, the boot time dropped sharply and the program load times have also improved. Overall, I would say a worthwhile upgrade!
