Has anyone noticed that if you put a pure black background (makes the effect more apparent) and set the resolution of your LCD to 1920*1080 that you can notice some form of noise/film grain effect?

I've noticed this before but only very lightly. Since moving to an almost all black wallpaper I can see this effect more clearly.

    What's up with this?

To put it bluntly, the G73 screens kind of suck.

If I put up an all black wallpaper/screen, the only thing I can see is my reflection and a bit of dust on the screen surface. Not sure what's wrong with yours?

If you use Battery Saving profile, it turns from 32bit color depth to 16bit color depth. Maybe thats your problem?

he's talking about 1920x1080 so i doubt its a RBBX05 model, even many of the Hannstar panels suffer from dithering.

if you've increased brightness in the "Display Colour"(in newer CCC) settings in CCC, then take the brightness back to 100 or slightly less..
dithering usually isnt visible on perfect black and only becomes apparent of slightly off black colours..

    here's some more reading/testing info

I have the AUO V3 and have read that the previous AUO was uglier in display.

but i notice this in my screen too. :p if i look at my monitor in a certain angle it goes away. i tried adjusting the brightness and contrast too but the grainyness is still there :p

The problem for me is that in some games at some parts, the dark textures have really low resolution...there were wall textures in Dead Space 2 that looked like 8bit textures. (Tried this with different drivers and even a windows reinstall)

And also got problem with lightning effects too...in Crysis 2 there were lightsources with lighting effects that almost looked like if I drawed a circle there with GIMP, was really ugly, not even close to a proper lighting effect.

Are these game issues or screen issues? (Not BB model)
