I have the 6GB version of the G73 with 1333 MHz Kingston RAM, now I plan to add finally 2GB more because I have often a quite RAM hungry VM running. I saw that only 3 slots are in use and I guess that the G73 is using dual-channel RAM, not triple-channel RAM?

In my G73 is currently the following module type:
    Kingston ASU1333D3S9DR8/2G (1333 MHz, 9-9-9-24)

But I actually find in German online shops only the following type:
    Kingston KVR1333D3S9/2G (1333MHz, CL9)

Are both modules 100% compatible and can run side by side? What means the "DR8" part at the end of the ASUS module type?

They should be the same, i got the equivalent 4GB modules and aside from the model number, speed timings atc. are the same.

Also I believe on german internet used pc-components market you will find 2gb sticks for like 2-3 times cheaper than in shop.

I sugges you to buy at least 4Gb stick because in case you understand you need more RAM you will have to threw away 1 2Gb stick...

Thanks / Spasiba for the fast replies :)

Well I use in general not more then 5,5GB~ but especially with the VM there is barely any space left so having 2GB more should fix the issue and leave a bit space for caching. I don't need 16GB RAM currently nor in the near future.

I got the module today and installed it directly, according to HWiNFO64 it is a exact copy of the ASUS module so others who plan to upgrade their amount of memory can use this memory module if they want to be on the safe side.

The whole change had additional positive side effects:

    - All modules run now in Dual-Channel mode correctly
    - The G73 changed the memory timings from 9-9-9-24 to 8-9-9-24 for some reasons oO I tested the stability and so far its stable like a rock
    - Windows upgraded the performance index and set the memory from 7,2 to 7,4

Nice, superfetch will also have more room to place stuff which is nice and at 5.5GB you were getting rather close to your max memory anyways.
