So, my first laptop charger died because the prong got bent to the point where it wasn't connected to the charger, and I got that replaced. Apparently BestBuy, s that they are, decided to give me some crappy charger from Premium Power Products (not so premium, apparently) which not only had a significantly shorter cord, but also just started buzzing, after only three months of use.
I wouldn't mind the buzzing noise, were the charger not to keep turning on and off. Every few seconds or so it stops charging, then charges for a few seconds, then stops charging, etc. It only does this when the laptop is running; when it is turned off, it gets a constant charge. Also, the charge is considerably weaker than normal, as the charge gives off barely more power than the laptop consumes. Is there a way to fix this problem without sending the laptop in to get the charger replaced, and how bad is it for the battery that the charger keeps switching on and off?

Also, I noticed a hair in the bottom left corner of my screen. I don't know how it got there but it's pissing me off. I can tell it's a hair and not part of the screen because it occasionally moves around slightly when the screen is moved.

Edit: The charger only buzzes/switches on and off when the computer is active. When it's turned off/in sleep mode, it gets a constant charge with no buzzing.

The cheaper the charger the more it buzzes. It's transformer whine, I've noticed it on Eee PC chargers mostly. The buzzing alone doesn't mean it's a malfunctioning charger, it could be charging intermittently because it's at or around 95% and that's where overcharge protection cuts the power to the battery. If you run down the battery and charge when it's on, does it not charge constantly? That would indicate a problem. Otherwise it's just a normal "feature" of your cheapo AC adapter.

Thanks for the reply. Regardless of the battery life, it will not deliver a constant charge unless the laptop is turned off or in sleep mode.

If that's the case, yell at Best Buy and shake a new charger out of them. :)

About the hair in your screen, if it's stuck in between the bezel and the screen, you can try to gently lift the bezel with a fingernail and move the hair.

How many watts is the charger rated for? The buzzing seems to occur when the PSU is overworked.

    It says 150W MAX.

EDIT: I suppose I should also mention that I am using a G73JH.
Haha I might have to. They easily have the worst customer service I have dealt with in my entire life. It took me four weeks to get my first charger replaced by them.

Make them get you a charger replacement from ASUS directly.

Yeah I am seriously thinking about a backup, since I've already gone through two chargers in less than a year.

Also, how bad it for my battery that my charger keeps switching off and on?

not very, but it has a long term effect if it keeps doing it.
