My asus is no longer charging. Is it because the battery is old? Got my g73gh-a1 pretty early.

edit - it says its plugged up, and charging but it stays at 0%. If I unplug it 1 hour later, it just shuts off so its defiantly not getting any power.

This mean I need to replace my adapter? Or do I need to replace my actual batteries? Or both?

Xellon When you are plugged in with the battery in does the 2nd light on the front panel glow the orange color?
Do you have a multi meter to test and see if the ouptut of the adapter is within specs? AC/DC Power adapter >> Laptop Parts 101

Did your battery life degrade recently?
Also it may be worth your time to email Donald @ power notebooks for a second opinion.

Yes, actually, its blinking the orange color.

    I don't have one :(

Yes it has. I couldn't tell 100% though as I purchased a solid state and that drained my batteries quite fast but it has degraded.

    thanks. I'll pm him.

Glad to help, sure sounds like bad battery to me. (degredation), after further review it could also be the charging circutry but without a new battery I am not sure how you could test it.

i am kinda sure your battery is dead.
    Mine G73 is the same...
It will stick to 0% and never charge up. if i remove the cord = DEAD.

It is time to buy a new battery. If you still have warranty, then ask Asus for help...

    Damn it :(

How much is a new battery? My adapter I guess is fine. Does that ever need replacement?

try ebay or newegg for cheaper price. Stock anything will always be more expensive.

It could be either a dead battery, dead AC Adapter (orange light on the AC Adapter or on your laptop?) or your charging system has failed.

Your best bet is to contact ASUS Support to have them diagnose it, then if it is a battery or AC Adapter just buy a new one. If it is the charging system you will have to send it in to them to have it repaired.

man, I can't afford to not have my laptop for even a day xD

Its a blinking orange battery icon on my laptop front lcd (2nd from right).

I'm going to guess and say its the battery.

    I found one on ebay here - 8 Cell Battery for Asus 90-NY81B1000Y ASUS A42-G73 ASUS G73J ASUS G73JH G73JH-A1 | eBay

Anyone know where I can get it cheaper?

Its possible that I'm wrong though.....

Then the first thing to do is get a new battery. If that doesn't solve the issue it is most likely your charging board.

Definitely a dead battery. Mine is doing exactly the same right now (battery is on the way). I know for sure its my battery because my brother has G73 as well and his battery works and charges fine in my rig. This happened on and off for me, sometimes it would report a full charge, sometimes it would charge a bit then start blinking. I actually managed to fix it for a while, but then my wife took my laptop to a friends house to play ME3 on release day, left it running on battery and trashed the rest of it. Windows is telling me it is at 0% and that I should replace.
