So as per the title, i was looking for a sub 15 inch high spec laptop and finally settled on the g46 after being half deafened by my m11x r2 which experienced overheating, poor battery life, etc. I want to purchase the laptop through hidevolution however i am not sure what specs to choose. So here are the questions (just want to clear up some uncertainties), what wireless card would suit me best, i download a lot of 720p and 1080p youtube videos through idm and have an ac class router (if anyone has the ac class g46 what is signal like, my house is mainly double brick), is the corsair ram substantially faster than the stock ram, how does the 900p screen compare to the m14x, how is speaker and headphone quality in general (background hiss, bass, power) and is battery throttling really devastating for gaming/gpu intensive apps on battery, if so how can i acheive atleast stable performance on medium/low settings. thanks

I can't answer all you questions but WIFI I try to go with intel as they hane no issues with linux and are fast ans don't use to much power. RAM in benchmark you would see a difrance not in a day to day use I have kept the original and it's fast. Screen mine came with the 1600 x 900 from asus it's an AOU303 I think and is on par with the m14x 1600x900, GPU in gaming I would have to test I am sure if you sett it to max peformance in power settings it can be fast on battery also I will try and test.

    Hope it helps.

Looks like most questions were answered above, but I do have to disagree with GPU performance on battery... this is the one area that my old m11x r1 did much better. The GPU is much slower on battery, to the point that I'll only use the IGP while on battery. I have yet to figure out how to get stable performance from the 660m on battery, the clock speeds are all over the place. It will run well for a few seconds, then downclock and stutter, etc. All my research has just shown that gaming on a decently fast GPU on battery just isn't possible with current battery technology.

Otherwise, stock intel wifi has worked well, speakers are plenty adequate, definitely upgrade to the 900p screen, and if it's in the budget install a mSATA SDD, huge improvement in system responsiveness.

Thanks for the replies, was worried about performance on battery, bummer. Otherwise looks like a great laptop, I can live with poor performance since i am only a casual gamer, hoping for good batterylife too. Know if a new revision is coming out anytime soon?

It runs as well as any other current laptop on battery so isn't "poor" per se compared to any other model, I'm just not aware of one that can run a current generation dedicated GPU at full clocks without a BIOS tweak or hack on battery, and then you are really pushing too hard on the battery. Battery life however while using the IGP is absolutely fantastic, I get 6+ hours easy.

Haven't heard word of a newer revision yet, but like all other systems, I'm sure ones in the works ;)
