I have decided on the specs below.

    Old post:

Finally made the the decision to to buy a custom G73HJ from GenTechPC and shipping it off to Norway.
I found out that they sell it in some netshops in my country, but its like the Best Buy offering, and no customizing whatsoever.

Im thinking of grabbing it at nearly stock specs, but using some extra cash money on a 128gb Crucial C300 SSD and IC Diamond 24 repaste on CPU and GPU.

But should i go for a external Bluray solution and upgrading to the Intel 6300 with third antenna also?
I got a pretty good Wireless N (5GHz) net at home so of course i want the best connection possible. ;D

Thanks to Ken Lee for taking the time to answering my PMs and after my next payday il try place an order.

The stock atheros wifi card won't handle 5Ghz connections. It only does 2.4, which if you have your router setup to put B/G connections on the 2.4 and N on the 5 you won't be able to connect to N.

I highly suggest replacing the wifi card right away even if it's the 6200 without the third antenna.

ICD24 works good, definatly worth the effort, just remember it does void warranty if you do it and they'll notice because there's a sticker right on the screws of the CPU that won't come off without destroying it.

There's also a new post that someone tried a different paste and got alot better results than the IDC24, but I'm sceptical since he has more than just paste cooling his PC.

Also, make sure you can live with the issues this laptop has, like delayed keystroke presses and a crappy touchpad.

I agree completely. Not everyone has keyboard lag... I do, but not everyone. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones. :)

How are you dealing with that, anyway? Still disabling touchpad through BIOS or just learned to type "differently" in order to avoid as many missed keystrokes as possible?

Good luck with your purchase. Ken Lee has become very good with ICD7 on your CPU/GPU, his temps are still the best I've seen.

N-6200 probably a good upgrade all considering it's only $35.

That's the only two upgrades I would pay for. I don't buy BluRays so it's a moot issue for me.

I don't think there is a way to type that prevents it. I'm not a speedy typist. I doubt I ever get over 60 wpm.

I usually have it disabled in BIOS.

Det er vel uten moms? Hvis ikke du får den tilsendt som en "gave" må du betale opp imot det samme som i nettbutikken som har den til 17.5k (25% mva + diverse gebyr)

For non-Norwegian readers: I feel impolite speaking to fellow Norwegians in a language different than my mother toungue! And it's boring talk anyway. :p

Congratulations, DEagleson. That looks like a smoking fast configuration. I love mine. I have keyboard lag and have to keep my touchpad disabled in BIOS. Even so, I still really like this rig!

Hater 25% mva, men selv om jeg betaler det og gebyrer er det fortsatt en bedre deal enn Komplett sin.
Får da mere HDD plass, en SSD, mere RAM og annet snacks. ;D¨

    To the non-Norwegians:

In Norway we have a 25% VAT thats added on everything over 34 USD.
Its pure evil i tell you! ;D

    Thanks. ;D
I know i will disable the touchpad once i get it too, since i dont plan on using it when im gaming.
Hopefully Gary & the Asus crew will find a more permanent fix for it.

You have a nice config there. Ken is nice to deal with, i can vouch for him.
Hope youre lucky and dont get one with missing keystrokes problems or a faulty GPU.
Theres a solution to both, but there are compromises.
I solved my GPU problems by using the MSI vBios (the final Asus beta just didnt do it for me), but i cant use any external screens now and i have my touchpad disabled in Bios so i can type normally.

Im getting it shipped with latest BIOS, vBIOS and a firmware update on the SSD, and Ken wrote they could do some testing before shipping, so it should be all right.
Curious to find out if the new touchpad upgrade your doing will improve the notebook.
Thanks to the link you posted i found that they got the nordic QWERTY keyboard in stock so i can order that too.

Why don't you just do the keyboard light change yourself? Its really simple, did mine last night, looks great. Took 5 minutes.

Hes talking about the keyboard layout... they actually come in every language where the G73 is being sold. I got mine with a US layout and i changed the keyboard to a Slovenian layout later myself.
The Asus vBios just doesnt work for me. The beta is much more stable, but still after i while i got a few GSODs and since the vBios development has stopped at this half patched up state (the powerplay and overdrive are still broken on the Asus vBios) and im already on my 3rd replacement GPU i decided to use the MSI vBios which works perfectly, but i do loose VGA and HDMI out, but i also get a little performance boost with the MSI vBios.
Dont worry too much though, the newest Asus beta vBios works for most people, i just seam to be either extremely unlucky or just push my laptop more than the average person.

But if its easy to do maybe someone could post or PM me a quick and easy guide. ;D
Its not that im planning to use the US keyboard for long.

Ah pardon, i didnt notice he ordered it.

Here is a guide on how to mod the keyboard light colour ;). If you plan to swap to a norwegian keyboard later anyway, than id also suggest to do this extremely simple mod yourself later and save those 39$. The roll of cellophane thats needed will cost you only around 2€. Or if youre lazy like me you can still order the moded one from Ken and use the already cut foil from his keyboard in the new one youll put in... But the price difference is noticable :).

looks good and should be simply easy for you to replace the keyboard and do the backlight. i can't say much about the keyboard cause i type really fast. its weird that you would want to disable the trackpad. but thats okay if you have an external mouse to use. this makes me not want to get a g73h due to lack of ssd and well most of what i read in this thread but easy fixes.

The only outstanding issue that you can't fix easily and effectivly IMO is the keyboard lag, which is why he is disabling the touchpad in BIOS because it keeps the lag from happening.

I certain i can manage that, so thanks for the link.
Think i can grab some blue film around here somewhere.
The money i save i can use to start my Nintendo 3DS savings project. ;D

    Edit:
Just checked if it was possible to ship the notebook to Norway and pay with PayPal, and it dident work. :(
I need a confirmed adress, and PayPal doesent support that feature in Norway, only USA, Canada or United Kingdom..

Anyone got a solution for me?
Im in no hurry btw as i get my cash in 15 days.

I used bank transfer to pay GenTech.
I didnt order from their site, but ordered it by talking to Ken through email.
