Hi all i no its a bit dated in a sense but buget is low and im not usually buying gaming notebooks but i have to sop buying pricey business notebooks for twice the price for poss half the gaming performance.
I can afford to get an G51vx or G60vx same specs. whats the main difference between screen and the extra .130mhz?
Basically im looking to get the most reliable one that does less throttling and better cooling if it has. know they identical but i read that there was a slight differences like this in the G51jx and G60jx.
you could just do pros and cons if you like plus ill poll it.
Help appreciated.
Thanks

I said G51vx only because I had it and it was pretty. Not because I know what I'm talking about.
The Processor is weak in the G51vx. If the specs are the same but the other has a better processor, you probably should go with that one. I thought the chassis was the same but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am. -
I have the G60VX and it's still running great.
It's basically the same laptop, only things different are the things you pointed out.
How much are they? -
As far as I know the only differences between the two are
CPU (as you pointed out, the G60vx CPU is 130MHz faster)
Lid design (G60vx is blue and has no side lights)
Audio (G60vx has EAX audio) - Not sure if this is software or hardware? Also not sure if this even does much.
OS - G51vx originally came with Vista with the W7 upgrade. Now, some still come with Vista while others come with W7.
If you can get the G51vx with Windows 7, I would get it simply because the white design is much much nicer than the blue design. Really, it's up to you though. They're pretty much identical. I've had the G51vx for 7 months and it's still kicking hard. Not going to be upgrading anytime soon. -
I think that was the best cover Asus has designed. That white was really sharp and pearly like.
With that said, if its only 130Mhz separating them, I don't think he'll really notice it. -
i might still consider the g60jx if i can find one for a good price even if its a second.
which laptop has the best panel? g51vx or g61vx? lol im asking questions cos the poll is equal right now.
I do like the white more but it comes down to which is the best cooled one?
What are the peak temps whilst gaming?
I think that will get me to decide.
Thanks -
I actually just got the G60VX refurb from Circuit City. 750 up front, then $115 back in Bing. So after that I will only have paid 635.
It's ok, I seem to have about average temps. I've read the G60 has a few degrees lower in temps vs the G51 and from what I can remember reading, my temps seem a little lower.
I've been tweaking it to no avail. Including undervolting the GPU, and CPU.
Temps are maxing out about 70c for CPU, and 87-89c GPU in a 84-86f room.(its hot here in TX during the summers :\) That was doing a few rounds of 3dmark 06. I was able to OC the CPU to 2.4ghz and temps went to 72-73 max.
Undervolting drops the temps a lot, brought the GPU down to 78c in 3dmark06 test, and cpu down to like 65c. I have a crappy GPU though, I can't undervolt to .90 without dropping the clocks from 500 to 475.
In all, with a bit of tweaking this laptop is good. Since I never had/saw a G51 I can't tell you which screen is better, but I can certainly say this screen sucks. Viewing anlges are the worst, but what really eats at my nerves is seeing each pixel on the screen, making it look really nasty. You have to tilt the screen right, and be looking at it mostly centered to not see it too much.(its always there)
From reading the Review thread, seems its the norm for the LCD to look like crap, and as the rest of them I have the HSD160PHW1. So I don't feel as if maybe I just got a bad LCD.
While I am picky, for the price, I can accept the annoying flaws. There is quite a few, the backplate has a design flaw too(instead of it having a hole its pure plastic, even though it looks like a fan grill thing. Wouldnt be so bad if nothing was underneath it, but the only fan in this laptop sits directly under it. Meaning not much air for the fan to suck in.
For now I am leaving the backplate off, and it really drops the temps, prob about a 5-7c drop in all temps(HDD, CPU, and GPU).
I just got this 2days ago, so we will see long term how it does. I wasn't planning on getting it, but since bing is 15.3% and bing is stopping on the 30th. I figure I'd give this laptop a chance. In the end, the exterior looks nice, I certainly prefer the blue lid with white LEDS, vs White lid with blue LEDs(all personal pref anyways). The rubber-ish palm rest is nice too, along with the backlit keyboard.
Hope this helps your decision, honestly, I feel the G60vx would be the better pick if your paying the same price for either one. I could have gotten the G51 for about 550, but for me, the tiny bit better CPU and blue lid sold me on the G60vx-rbb05 -
i have seen this bing sale thing but i cant get it to work for the moment. i wnaa use this on ebay. they have said that a buyer can use bing discount but i cant get the instructions to work.
if i can i prob get the g60. otherwise i think im a have to get the g51 lol.
I will give myself aslng as monday to decide any help on the bing instructiosn is grateful. -

For gaming performance, the G51/G60vx will outperform the G51/60jx. Benchmarks might be close, but that's because benchmarks also test out he CPU. In this case, the i7 will beat the C2D.
However, in-game, the GPU is usually what's more important, so a C2D+GTX 260m will outperform a i7+GTS 360m.
As for the actual question, I'm going to say G51vx, because I own one and I love it. They're both so similar you can't go wrong buying one or the other. -

I said earlier that I've had my G51vx for 7 months and it's still kicking hard. The GPU did however fail on me twice within the first few months of owning it. Had to send it to Asus twice which was hell. It's been about 3 months now though and everything is running great. Max GPU temp of 85C which I'm happy with. Of course this shouldn't influence your decision since it was just a case of really bad luck at my end as no one else seems to have had this happen to them. Plus the G60vx uses the same GPU so equal chance. Like I said, these two laptops are nearly identical.

Sort of how the G50vt-X6 that came before it taught be the differences between processors besides clock speeds, and the difference between IGP and GPU.
Yup, thank you my trusty computers. -
I see the polls are even at mo so unsure lol. I do know of the g53 but dont no whats in it yet but heard its 360m which makes me think whats different to the g60jx and g51jx if they are same gpu.

Who said 360m? Everything the resellers are telling us is GTX 460m, which is shaping up to be a very strong performer.

Looks quite promising. Read on from post #745 or so.
