Has anyone managed to get Snow Leopard or Lion running in a virtual machine on the G73? I've tried a few different guides (sysprobs.com) with no avail. If anyone manged to get it working, can you tell me what guide you used?
I'm just curious and would like to experiment with Mac OS.
Thanks!

In past we were not able to discuss this in this forum, hopefully that rule has changed.
-
Sorry guys, but the rules haven't changed, discussion of running OS X on non Apple hardware is still prohibited.
-
Well since this is now public knowledge: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sit...u-can-now-discuss-hackintosh.html#post8443150. I'm reopening this, as Charles said, have at it.
Per the instructions in the other thread, discussion of software piracy is prohibited, but discussing installing a copy of OS X that you purchased on your Asus notebook no longer isn't. -
In that case, I got it working on my G73 (Virtualbox) using this guide:
Install OS X Snow Leopard in VirtualBox on Windows 7 | Redmond Pie
and this Youtube video: How to install Mac OS X on VirtualBox in Windows - YouTube
First, after you create a Virtual Machine (as the guide says),
1) run it with the iBoot.iso image ( http://www.tonymacx86.com/C:Dq-OCPpT/iBoot-3.3.0.zip)
2) once the iBoot screen appears, change the image to your Snow Leopard iso
3) Press F5 and Select the Snow Leopard icon from the iBoot GUI
4) Once Snow Leopard installs, it is very important that you install the Snow Leopard combo update: http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1399/en_US/MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg
5) DON'T RESTART when the combo update is finished installing.
6)Instead, download Multibeast: http://www.tonymacx86.com/C:Dq-OCPpT/MultiBeast-3.10.1.zip
7) Install Easybeast (part of Multibeast) so you have a proper bootloader (otherwise you will have to boot from iBoot all the time)
8) Once Easybeast is done, THEN you can restart.
9) Now you should be able to boot Mac OS X (10.6.8) from the virtual hard drive.
10) Have fun experiencing Mac OS X on your G73 or other Windows PC!
Important notes: DO NOT check "Enable EFI" on the virtualbox settings or nothing will boot.
Also, the resolution will most likely be locked at 1024x768. In order to correct this to your native resolution, you may need to do two things:
FIRST:
a) Close VirtualBox completely
b) Open CMD
c) navigate to the vitualbox root folder in CMD (mine is: C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox )
d) Enter the following command: VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "CustomVideoMode1""1600×900×32"
Note: Of course you can substitute your native resolution in the "1600x900x32" tag. My native res is 1600x900 (keep 32 the same, it is the color bit depth). Also make sure you substitute the exact name of your virtual machine inside the "VM name" tag. For instance, I named mine "OSX 10.6" so I would use that.
SECOND:
If that doesn't do it, you may also need to modify the file in /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist
Follow this guide (method 1): Increase Mac OS X Snow Leopard Screen Resolution on VirtualBox and VMware
*Do Method 1 but modify the /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist file instead of the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist.
Now your Mac OS X VM should be at native resolution and you can use full screen to gain the full Mac OS experience without being aware that you are running on top of Windows! LOL -
Why would that be blocked from discussion? Running osx software on non mac hardware although condemned has ALWAYS been legal. Nothing they can do about it. Ive known major VFX studios that have had hackintoshes for over 8 years now.
This whole hush hush thing about not talking about it is complete BS and apple cant do a single thing about it. -
What we really need is a How to Dual Boot Tutorial. I was able to get it done a long time ago, but can't remember how I did it.
-
^^^^^ The fourth post here http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/2774-osx-windows-7-dual-boot.html seems to be a reasonable solution, although when I try it I will create a full system image of my win 7 install.
Does anyone know if you install OS X can you run it for a short period of time B4 you have to activate it (like Windows)? -
I remember a while back that the makers of VirtualBox used to put out nightlys. You see, the OSX version of the software can emulate a Mac perfectly, no modification, nothing. The Windows version has this, however it's either blocked or removed when compiled. There was a nightly they missed. I need to find it, it allowed you to literally boot and install directly from a Snow Leopard disk. No OSX86, no second files.
Josea: OSX has no activation. Apple trusts you with the copy. -
tonymacx86 Blog: iBoot + MultiBeast: Install Mac OS X on any Intel-based PC
All you need to do (in theory) is have a retail snow leopard disc and burn iBoot to a blank CD. First boot the PC with the iBoot CD and then change the the iBoot disc to the Mac OSX disc and install from there. -
Works quite acceptable for me with Virtualbox, only the kernel panic on each shutdown is a bit annoying.
-
I remember I got it working, but I had to use a separate computer to get the hard drive configured properly, and hardware acceleration was garbage at the time.
