I recently acquired one of these. And the drives came looking like this:
![]()
Now of course I feel that this is extremely awkward. And I would like to merge the two partitions in my SSD (namely C: and D![]()
And merge the two partitions in my HDD (E: and F![]()
Now is there something that someone can recommend that can help me do this? I merged the 4 partitions in my G73 when I first got that with a Bootable CD of some sort (2 years ago now). But that was 2 HDDs and I have no idea if 2 partitions within a SDD can be merged successfully and with what program.
Thanks in advance. I really want to resolve this before I embark on installing programs and transferring my files over to this new machine.

Make sure there is no data on D and F. In disk management, right click on D & F and select delete volume for each. Then you can right click on C and choose extend volume, extend it so that it takes the space that D previously occupied. Repeat for E to merge the F partition.

That was what I initially thought of doing, just deleting and then extending.
But shouldn't have any adverse effects on the SSD right? -

One other I noticed was that when the HDD is being read (looking through files on it) the laptop emits a tiny "click" every so often. Which I suspect is actually coming from the HDD.
For example when loading a series of thumbnails for photos it would emit that noise. And then stop once the thumbnails are loaded. At this point there are no performance issues, it's just a bit bothersome.
Is that a cause for concern? The drive works fine, and runs well. -
Pretty much every HDD clicks one in a while, some are louder than others. Sounds like normal behavior to me.

Thanks again tijo. Even if it dies I won't be too torn up. It's only a storage drive and I suspect replacing it shouldn't be an issue for a semi-competent person like me.
