Hey guys, I apologize for starting a new thread but ive been searching on here and google without much success.

Anyways, I havent used my built-in microphone since I received my laptop from its second RMA, until last night of course through SCII and skype. I also updated my creative software with the update linked by Chasity on (I believe) the second to last page of that thread, this too was before i tried my microphone again. So at this point im not sure if the asus techs did something (as they did horribly bend the right most side of my keyboard and it keeps popping up) or if the upgrade/update itself did something, as before both of these my built-in microphone worked fine.

So now for the problem. Im not 100% sure the built-in mic is even recognized...theres no sound captured whats so ever, im certain its not muted, and even with the microphone boosted a bit, instead of recording silence I get static...I can however plug in an external microphone and everything works fine, now when I searched on here, I found another thread where the guy described similar problems, until he realized he just wasnt pushing his ptt button lol unless theres some generic button i need to press, ive tried everything in SCII, skype, recording/sound devices and I cant get it to hear me

I tried rolling back my drivers (this made things worse), then updating them (just ended up reinstalling my current ones) and neither helped. Ive gone into the device manager and as far as I can tell there isnt any hardware malfunctioning or not being recognized.

Can anyone offer me any help?

I would hazard a guess the connector to the mobo is loose or disconnected, but unfortunately I cannot open it from here. Does the mic show up in Recording Devices the Win Audio app, and is it enabled or muted?

Looks good right? No nothing is muted or disabled...

I swear if the asus techs stole my ICD7, bent my keyboard AND f**ked up my microphone im going to be far more then upset

You should mute the mic playback, unless you want feedback and hear yourself talk. :)

You can also check the Creative mixer and see what it is up to. Did you also run the AMD64fix after you installed the update?

Well for now that was the point because I dont believe it to be picking up anything at all lol

You speak of the Creative Audio Center? Ive checked there too and cant find anything about the Microphone. And yes I did...

Next step is to check the mic connection.

You need to do a disassembly to get to it, it runs from the panel to the mobo.

Can you Chastity or anyone else help me out and post screen shots of HWiNFO32 SMBIOS DMI and check your "On Board Devices", my first two identify themselves as video adapter (web cam im assuming) and ethernet adapter (self explanatory) and my third as "unknown" if you dont have an unknown can you tell me (or show me) what it is? As well as a screen shot of your device manager sound controllers? Thanks in advance :)

Im trying to figure this out, and disassembling my laptop is a last resort.

My lappy has an unused Firewire port somewhere. Prolly that is what you are seeing.

I saw it in my 206 BIOS, and I see it when I look up the hardware found in HWINFO32. Obviously we have no port for it, tho I suppose I may have the mobo port somewhere.
