Hi everyone,
I'm feeling a serious urge to upgrade to SSD, and I am considering this one:
Newegg.com - Mushkin Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR120GB 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) because its within my price range and it has excellent reviews. Does anyone with a G73JH happen to have this drive?
If so, how does it perform in the G73JH? I know it will run on SATA II speeds since the G73JH doesn't support SATA III, but does it still make a considerable difference from a 7200rpm drive?
Feel free to recommend any other SSD's as well (preferably under $150) so I can look at my options!
Thanks!

I do not have it in my JH, but i got the 240GB version for my desktop. 260 $CDN was too good to pass up. So far it's been performing very well in my desktop, but it still has a SF-2281 controller and you get the risks associated with it. Like i said, this drive has been trouble free for me so far in my desktop and i hope it stays that way.
If you don't feel like taking a gamble, then the Intel 320, Samsung 830 and Crucial M4 remain your best options.
$30 more: Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2CCA 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) with Transfer Kit. I can confirm this drive performs admirably in the JH, i've been using for a couple of months and i've abused the drive with CFD simulations a couple of times without any problems. -
Thanks for the response! Hmm it seems that I can get the Crucial M4 from amazon for $154.99 (no tax or shipping charge) since I am a Amazon prime member, whereas I would have to pay $142.40 for the Chronos because I have to pay shipping and tax for Newegg.

I just bought a 128GB M4 for my M11x and they are currently going at very good prices on amazon. I was going to stick with my 96gb SATA II kingston SDNOW but as the M11 can handle SATA III I decided to move that to my desktop for a secondary drive and everyone I have spoken to about the M4 sings their praises for speed. Amazon are shipping them with the latest firmware now just so you know it will be ready to go when it arrives.
Sadly you will only see SATA II speeds in your JH but you really should consider it nothing screams more performance like going from mechanical to solid state. -
Okay so I just took the plunge and ordered the crucial m4 from amazon! How would I check the firmware so I can be sure it is up to date?
-
If it is from Amazon directly the same as mine then it will be the latest you need not worry. -
Actually the latest FW for the M4 is 0309 and it addresses the 5000 hours bug so it's a must have.
-
Unless that is a UK thing as I checked the firmware on the UK site. -
Get the 0309 firmware iso from Crucial's website, burn it to a cd and boot from it, it will check the firmware version and tell you which one you have then ask you if you want to update. Backup everything before you update just in case. I have yet to have an update go awry on my M4s, but caution never hurt.
-
Okay so the M4 came today and I installed Windows 8 on it. There was a big sticker on the drive that said "updated to firmware 0309" so I didn't need to update the firmware. So far I am thrilled with the drive's performance! Windows 8 boots in about 7 seconds and here are the CrystalDiskMark scores:

These scores are OVER 4x as fast as my old 7200RPM drive -
These scores look good to me, on par with mine, that test was done pre 0309 by the way:
I get 26secs from pressing the power button to desktop including login password on win7.
