    Hi everyone.

So I have this problem with my Asus G73jh where it crashes when I play PC games like Magicka, Dead Island, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and a few others. It doesn't crashes when I play League of Legends, Elder Srolls IV: Oblivion, and another handful of others.

The crashes aren't GSOD or blue-screens, instead my computer will just shut itself down. The crashes occur somewhat consistantly between 10-30 minutes of playing any of the mentioned games.

    I was wondering two things:

    1. Has anyone else experienced this?
    2. How do I fix it?

Note: I believe all my Creative Software has been installed, although I am not 100% sure. I just uninstalled everything I thought was related.

Instant shutdown is a thermal shutdown which would make sense as the games listed are more GPU intensive. Run HWINFO and load the sensors and firstly check both your Fans are showing up with RPM then run a game and check the highest temp.

If it is 100oC or above firstly use compressed air in your fan vents which should work otherwise consider a repaste. Post back your results.

It looks like all my GPU items are getting right at or slightly above 100oC

Yup that would mean after 30 minutes of gaming that the temps will push towards 110oC which is thermal shutdown.

You can try cleaning out the vents using compressed air or blowing in them if not (close ur eyes ;) ) and then recheck to see if your temps drop below 100oC at load.

If not or if they dont drop within a safe distance 95oC or below you might need to consider repasting, personally its a very worthwhile thing to do I do not see above 74oC on any section of my GPU after several hours gaming after removing the degraded stock paste and applying ICD.

There is a guide in my sig should you need it.

Well thanks. I'll run out and get some compressed air since I feel that's more powerful anyway; use it and see how it works. If not I might just use that guide of yours.

I want to mention that I do have a warranty with the place I bought my computer at, for another two years. That would probably void it, wouldn't it? If so, oh well, they probably wouldn't do the repasting anyway.

Hopefully the compressed air works for you it does for most.

Read my guide if you consider repasting and as long as you are careful and dont break anything you will be able to repaste the GPU without voiding your warranty there is only a warranty sticker on the CPU in the JH model so removing the GPU heatsink will not break any seals.

    Oh, and one last thing:

I use the air while it's shut down, right? I assume I do, it sort of makes sense. But I also thought it might be more effective if they were running.

Yes indeed not while the fans are spinning, short sharp bursts as prolonged high speeds on the fans could damage the motors.

Well I used the compressed air and ran Magicka, with the highest temp getting only up to 90oC. Thanks again!

You should be fine for a while then before needing a repaste do it on a regular basis and you should be ok though 90oC is ok :)

20oC drop from a can of air!

I had the same problem revvy, i used compressed air to clean my fans and it dropped my temps. I would run those games around 80-90+ and i would get a thermal shutdown. After cleaning my fans i swear the biggest dust bunny ran out but after that now i run them around 60-70 temps
