Here's my plan for my new Laptop
First, Amazon.ca have a great deal for the G53SX-A1 (1099.99$), so I'll buy that one. The G53SX-DH71 (with the Core i7-2670QM @ 2.2GHz instead of the Core i7-2630QM @ 2.0GHz) is 1399.99$. I really dont think the 2670QM worth the extra 300$. What do you think ??
With the 300$, I'll buy an OCZ Vertex 3 Max Iops 120GB SSD for 219.99$ at NCIX.com
I'll put the SSD as the man HDD, and I have a Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB from my last laptop that I would use as the second HDD in the Laptop. The Scorbio Black is one of the fastest non-SDD HDD, so I think it would be better than the HDD that comes with the laptop. I would probably use the 750GB hard drive as an External HDD with one of my 2.5 Enclosure
What do you think ?? The best way to go for a 1320$ Gaming Laptop ??
Also, do you know the timing of the DDR in the G53SX... Cause maybe it would worth it to buy lower time DDR3.. What do you think ??
Thank you !!

Get the 53SW. Its 460m is 192-bit and thus faster.
-
Also, that is the Config core of the 560M if it's not 192 bit ?
Thank you -
It also depends what else you'll be using the laptop for. If gaming, the 53SW will give better performance. Although in both cases, a HDMI output will give better resolution on whatever external display you're using.
Edit: I believe the 192-bit 560m has 3 Gb of memory, while the lower performance config has less. -
560 = 128bit (I think)

What do you think ?

I think you are on to a good thing, I just did this:
Asus G53SW-xa1: core i7-2630QM (2GHz) ₪ 8gigs ₪ 500gig 7200rpm ₪ GFX460M (1.5M) ₪ 1980x1092 glossy LED ₪ Dvd-r
... plus an OCZ vertex3 120G (installed as boot drive)
and I'm happy with the value (total outlay of ~$1300 after tax & shipping) -
-
And how about a custom FORCE 1761 / MSI 1761 from Xotic PC ?
i7-2670QM, GTX 570M 1,536MB, No HDD for 1,233$
Is the build good ? -
If you are unsure which notebook to buy, you should ask in the which notebook should i buy section.
Now, on topic: i'm pretty certain the RAM in the G53s is CL9, it is in the G73s at the very least.
The 560m in the G53SX is 128-bit, the one in the G74 non best buy is 192-bit.
Lastly, HDMI and DVI are identical electronically for the image so it is a simple matter of getting an adapter. -
might be reading this wrong, but where did you come to the conclusion the g53sw does NOT have a vga output? it does. vga and hdmi both, just no dvi out. also note both models the g53sw and g53sx can only support two displays at a time maximum unless you obtain something like a usb video adapter.
on another note, the 2670qm is mainly only worthwhile in the 53sw/53sx if you wish to use a modded bios to enable the new encryption instruction set. its turned off in bios for all models though both cpus support the feature. independent efforts on this forum had success modding bios to enable them for the 2670, but not the 2630.
also worth noting asus has put out more bios improvements for the 17" models, and the cooling system on the g74 is a new design.
unconfirmed thought: i believed the g53sx-dh71 was a new independent revision to act as counterpart to the g74 in the 15" range, with the primary difference being the fixed gpu memory bus width. can certainly be wrong on that though. -
FYI , i tried on my very old Desktop that only have 1 VGA out to plug in on my TV set with VGA => DVI + DVI=> HDMI , works great , even with " two " adapters at the same time.
So no problem if you have a DVI in on your screen with HDMI out , will cost you 5 buck , that's all -
I'll get the SW then..

I just ordered the Asus G53SW-A1 Here's the bill :
From Amazon.ca, I ordered the G53SW-A1 = 1,253.16$ taxes included
From NCIX.com, I ordered an OCZ Vertex 3 Max Iops 120GB SSD (249.99$ minus 30$ mail-in rebate) and a nGear HDMI-DVI/D 6FT Cable (7.99$) = 240.88$ taxes included
For a total of 1493.32$
What do you think ??
