To start my G73 this morning I had to push the power button about 15 times. Prior to working on the the 15th try it would power the keyboard lights and there would be the sound of the hard drive spinning up and then all would stop. Nothing would appear on the screen. I tried disconnecting the power cord and pulled the battery after 7 or 8 tries.

It is running fine once it gets going.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

I have a friend with a G53JW with the same power button issue. HDD light would light, and they'll spin, then it powers off.

    He RMA'ed it.

Well, the power button IS doing something, it's just not POSTing properly. Did you update something recently?

Only what ever windows updates have come down. I think the fail is before windows though as the screen does not even light up prior to the shut down. As you say though the power button does work every time I push it... it just doesn't complete.

the issue happens on AC and battery correct? I would try reseating the HDD and ram, or resetting the BIOS to defaults.

I had the battery in and the power cord plugged in as well. The battery was fully charged. When / if it happens again I will try reseating the hard drive and memory, thanks.

It has not happened again, I have stopped and restarted a number of times with no issues. I wonder if it has something to do with crashing in sleep mode... which is what happened when the problem occurred originally.

Could have been a corrupted value in some ACPI header on the battery.
