I was current with all the GSOD/PSOD drama going on here and with the notebook in general, but decided to take my chances. So, I ordered the G73 through Xotic PC with ICD7 on CPU and GPU and the Intel 6100 wireless chip upgrade. Upon delivery I was disappointed because the box had Asus factory sealed 'tamper-proof' tape on it, so I thought that I got stiffed without the upgrades I paid for...however, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had indeed somehow accessed the laptop, performed the upgrades and included a recovery disk with an Xotic PC sticker on it...this was several layers below the Asus factory 'tamper-proof' tape. I did a fresh install from an OEM disc of Win 7 Ultimate 64 that I already had and went with the recommended software selections from the Asus InstAll CD and was patiently awaiting the new vbios to upgrade the drivers. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the fixes and releases stickied to the top of this section and went ahead and did the 211 bios update via WinFlash with no problems (and my keyboard lights still worked fine!), flashed the vbios with the one Gary released, and did a full uninstall in safe mode with driver sweeper and installed the 10.8 drivers. All went off without a hitch and I have not yet found any hiccups in the system while playing a slew of Steam games and no major differences in temps or decrease in FPS. I have attached two screenshots of my idle temp and my temps after 1 hour of L4D2. Big thanks to everyone on here who helped out with all the vbios/keyboard light fix stuff, even though I did not have to experience any of it. WHo knows...maybe if I had missed it altogether, I might be waiting on an RMA right now.

my A1 runs like a champ. my max temp under furmark was 89C

all iv'e done is update the bios to 211, updated the ATI drivers to 10.8 (just did a straight upgrade, no driver sweeper ) and updated my Realtek drivers to fix the steam issue.

i think i lucked out? my friend has a g73jh he bought at best buy about 2 month ago and we decided to test his using furmark and his jumps up to 111C after about 5 minutes. all he's done is driver updates and updated to 211 bios. no GSOD on either unit though and his seems stable after 2 hours of playing bad company 2...

we are going to repaste both of the machines though, i have read bad things about the stock paste and want to nip it in the bud on mine and were gonna try to get my friends temps down to a reasonable level.
