I purchased the G73JH-A1 last Thursday (7/22/2010) and received it the next day. It was working perfectly for me for the last 7 days, only thing I did when I first got it up and running was to uninstall all of the programs that came with it that I wouldn't want to use/need and installed Office 2010, WOW, PowerDVD, and itunes.

However, on the 8th day, I woke up and needed to print out my boarding passes for my flights. The computer wouldn't turn on when I pressed the power button. I was freaking out like what the hell is happening. So I made sure the power cord was plugged in and power was going to it. Still no power, nothing it wouldn't turn on, no lights on the front bar showing a charge nothing. The power brick is showing green like it always had so there is power going there. There is no problems with the cord, nothing frayed, or mis-shapen.

So I decided to wait till I got home to see if I can get it to work. Fast forward 5 hours and I'm home and plug the computer in and still no power. Nothing. It doesn't respond at all. I'm really upset that I made sure not to do anything to the computer, not that I would even feel comfortable in even trying and now the computer doesn't work.

So I called Amazon.com the seller of the product they said they could send me a replacement and I would have to pay for the shipping to them but they will refund the amount once they got it back. They said they need 4 hours to get the ball rolling and someone would call me back and e-mail me. (Funny I don't have access to e-mail since I don't have a computer that works.)

so by the 5th hour I don't get a call and decide to call them back to follow up. First thing the person tells me after I give them the information is did I check my e-mail. (I was like are u serious) Did you not read the notes stating that this was my only computer and the only computer I could possible use till a neighbor comes home, currently using her macbook pro (such a nice lady). She said sorry and that they couldn't process a return till I spoken with ASUS. I was like that seems fair and I could understand that but still kinda peeved that they wouldn't tell you this in the first place when I called 5 hours ago.

So I call ASUS and after giving them all of my info name telephone, etc, I felt like I was signing up for a credit card. I was asked what the problem was. I told the agent what happened. The agent asked one question "was the greenlight on the powerbrick?" I stated yes it was. The agent then goes to state they will need to start the process of shipping it out to a place to get fixed. I asked how long it would take to fix it. The agent stated 14 business days, (3 weeks), not including shipping time to and from.

So I wasn't very happy and stated that I don't understand how a $1,700 computer couldn't be built without incurring this type of problem. The agent said that honestly this can happen and then went to state that it might, probably, take longer than 14 business days. Offered me the numbers to 3 authorize companines in new york city that can do repairs I think. So I said that I can't be that long without a computer, you never truly understand how much your life is connected to computer till you don't have one. I feel like a deer caught in headlights. Hindsight states I should have kept my other computer a little longer after transfering all the data and made a hard copy of it.

I told them I would call them back after speaking with Amazon.com
So I called back Amazon.com and was told they didn't have anymore in stock and the best they could do was to have me return it for a refund which would be processed once the laptop arrives, not when the laptop ships. Also, they will not refund me back for next day, and there is a whole list of things you have to jump through. (There website says refunds are processed within 4 weeks). So I could be without a computer for a month or more, or I can return it and still not have the money needed to purchase another computer for almost the same time. Either way I am screwed without a hello or dinner...

Does anyone have any insight to share with me with dealing with either ASUS or Amazon.com

I am just so disappointed and I just know that the apple sales person at the 5th ave store is still laughing at me when I told him I wasn't going to go with the macbook pro but this computer. What even sucks more is that I still have 2 weeks to go till I get the new iphone. So I am stuck with this old crappy samsung phone that doesn't have internet capabilities or e-mail. I feel so lost has anyone ever felt this way?

Hey, a similar thing happened to my G73. It randomnly decided not to turn on one day. It was plugged in, the power brick's light was on, but nothing was showing on the computer's lights. Turns out the tip of the ac charger was malfunctioning, so the charger was working but there was a short circuit at the tip. I'd check the tip of your charger just in case. Anywyas, I managed to fix it for like 5 minutes, was able to turn my computer on, but then the charger died :(.

Might be a long shot but you can try removing the battery, then connecting the laptop to the adapter and try starting it up directly from AC power.

Try taking the laptop to a trusted repair store and see if they can diagnose the problem. If its something simple like repairing the adapter tip, I'm sure it wouldn't be too costly or time consuming.

    Goodluck.

Had that problem recently when I reassembled it. 2 things to look for:

    1) Check the underplate to see if the wifi cables are pressing on the reset button on the left side.

    2) See if the annoying plastic flap by the battery connects isn't sticking out and covering the connections.

Thanks guys. I took it into the city to one of the repair people ASus stated to go to. Well he fiddle with something, took out the battery, then pressed a few buttons on the laptop and bam the power came back on. He said it could have been the reset button like Chastity stated because I did have my iphone charging as well on the lefthand side. All good now. This website rocks. I wish I could get Chastity to update my computer. I went through all three threads and I found learning French much easier than what I am supposed to do in those threads.

p.s. chastity could you make like a dummies guide or put the step by step on youtube?

Please, in the future, when you see a tech fiddle with something and press keys, make sure you ask about the fiddle/key combination. That's information lots of us could use :)
