Hello guys, I am new to this forum and am not sure if anybody else is having the same problems like I am having with my new Asus G73JH. I just got it April and when I just started out with it, it was perfect. I played GTA 4 on it at 46 avg fps the first time I installed it. The Benchmarking tool have always been showing me around 45-46 average fps at maxed settings. However since recently I have not been getting the same results from the benchmarking tests. Now I am getting no more than 22-25 fps even 10 fps!!!! for average framerate. I constantly try rebooting my system because when I just got it, rebooting would normally fix the framerate issues. However the framerate does not change. Could someone please explain how to deal with this? I would gladly appreciate it. Thank you.

The newest 10.7 cats have some improvements listed for GTA4.

this could be due to a myriad of reasons. For starters, how many programs are you running? As you install more apps, they might be runnig in the background. Viruses may also slow down your machine, what av are you using? Is it updated? Which power profile are you using? Hopefully high performance. Dont use turbo boost with games, it just slows things down. One way to get the best out of your machine would be to do a clean install of windows. Theres also a bevy of gta 4 updates that can optimise performance. And ofcourse you should check your gpu driver version, and gpu temps to see if everything is in proper working order. Get hwinfo and furmark, the latter to stress test your gpu to check for any inherent weakness it might have.

I have quiet a few programs on this laptop but how do you stop them from running in the background? Also I have Kapersky Anti-virus 2010 and it is up to date. It also says I have no ative threats. I am using high performance. I'll try it without turbo boost because i have always been using turbo boost. I dont not have windows 7 on a disk.

It could be down to the latest GTA IV patch. That patch alone can reduce performance by almost 50% in some cases. I have antivirus, spyware guard and other security software running on my laptop but it does not make any difference to my GTA IV performance at all. Also one doesn't have to use the High performance profile to get good performance, the balanced one works just as well for me.

I patched the game upto v.1.4 and overall got a performance boost of about 20 to 30% in FPS. Didn't need to install any further patches after that since I was happy with the game :D

Also, if you want to stop unnecessary programs from loading: run msconfig and disable them from the start up tab.

Services.msc would be the second option...but should not be used unless you know what you're doing.

Guys, guys ,guys!!!! Don't worry about the problem anymore I fixed it. Some file that came on my computer called folding@home was messing around with my processor. The file was running on all 8 cpus was downclocking my system. I went msconfig as my friend Hasib 1522 told me and I was able to stop the file from running. So to all my friends out dere who has their pc slowed up for some weird reason go msconfig and go to either services tab or startup tab and disable some of the programs running. However when dealing with the services tab do not disable anything that has either Intel, Asus or microsoft as the manufacturer. Disable all that has an unknown manufacter and it is up to you if you want to disable files with other manufacturers. Anyways thank you guys and good luck with your g73s.
