It took time before I decided to do a repaste on my GPU. Before I did it, I was getting 60 idle and 80+ to 90+ whenever I play games on max settings. I had my ICD7 for a week already and today is the day that I have time to do it. It took me an hour to do everything with the help of some threads here and the disassembly video on youtube. I also took the chance of cleaning the fan.

    Before repasting : 58-63 idle
    After repasting of ICD7 : 45-50 idle

    Running furmark for 10 minutes @ 1920x1080 gives me a wonderful result of 74 C(maximum) :D :D :D :

Benchmarking on furmark @1920x0180 with 8x MSSA gives me this :
    FPS: min=12 max=23 avg=14

Benchmarking on furmark @1920x0180 without MSSA gives me this :
    FPS: min=26 max=43 avg=30

I am really happy with the results of my repasting. I'll update more results after playing games. :D

Thanks to ValkerieFire for his tutorial thread and BTOtech for the Disassembly video.

Is that on battery power? I cant be sure because I'm reading this on my iPhone. But it looks like your screen shot is at 500mhz.

Looks like 405 or something, hard to tell.
    Did you downclock your card?

I'm pretty sure that core is at 499. Can you run GPU-Z and tell us what speeds your card is running at?

700/1000. Actually I noticed that while running FurMark. I saw that it was 499/1000 but I didn't downclock it or whatever.

Then maybe it would pay to run FurMark at the same as GPU-Z and see if FurMark is giving you a true reading, or if you are getting the true temperatures maximum temperatures for your card. Hopefully it's only FurMark being stupid as usual.

I think if you were running at 700/1000 your furmark max should be ~79-80C. Anyway, congrats with your temps! You are happy with your repaste and that is most important.

I am glad your repaste went well also and thanks for your comments regarding my guide. The most important things is that it turns on after you put it all together ;), the fact that it runs cooler is a bonus. Still everyone is confused about the 5oomhz, but it does look like it maxed out at 73c. Try running it one more time and make sure it is at 700mhz. People are only skeptical because Chastity probably has the coolest running G73JH here, at 79c I think (and it is rumored she lives in an igloo!), but you could be the new record holder!

and yes its beijing here so i also live in a igloo..ambient temps are reading 18.7c in my room temp thermometer.

and i guess i should be the new record holder here..

I think it only takes mine 5-6 minutes to max out, but I'd have to check to be sure, 10 minutes would definitely be maxed out though. I only remember Chastity's temps from reading all the posts in her repaste thread, I've read others, but don't remember them, and I could easily be wrong on hers.

i think you havent turned on the extreme burn mode and post-fx which is usually on when anyone else tests, thats why you're getting 30 fps otherwise most users get 17-18 fps on their furmark runs
This would also make it run cooler..
Try turning both options on and then post results

As Chastity confirmed and from my own experience my temps didn't go higher after 5 mins. I made run for 30 mins to check that, but don't have screenshot with me.(I am on working shift far from home).

    1) Xtreme Burnin Mode + FX is a must
    2) You should let the tests run for about 20 min or better. It may still creep up a couple of degrees.

And since I don't like to be outdone :) I opened the windows in my guest room, and made my own igloo.

There is something you all are seeming to miss. Look at Keph's temps and I've looked through other threads and it's the same thing. He lives in a refrigerator

Look at his HDD temps. HDD temps are PURELY based on ambient temps. I ask any of you try to be in an ambient temp so cold where your HDD temp is 27C at idle. Try it. I bet even if your window is open it still won't go that low. Max temp of 30C?

I tried and I had to be in an ambient temp of 12C with notebook fan and with the back panel off. In normal 22C my HDD temps are always around 34C.

@Ruckus: I decided to recreate your experiment :)

Outside atm is reportedly 13C, so I ran the Furmark with the panel open and using my wimpy Targus Chill Mat, as opposed to the Cryo w/ 3x 120mm fans. :p

    http://pcaudio.ath.cx/crap/furmark_13C.jpg

As you can see, -keph-'s temps are easily achievable. If I was blowing 1 or 2 120mm fans at the exposed area of the heatsink, then achieving that at 18C is very doable.

@-keph- If you want my crown, you need to use NO COOLER, no open panel, and 21-22C ambient temps. :) Also, host a pic that isn't resized.

Alright! As requested by everyone, I did a new test on furmark. This time my Furmark is running on 1920x1080, 8x MSSA, xtreme burning mode, post FX, with back cover on, ambient(i would say its pretty warm here at cali) hmm.. between 20-25... not sure tho.. maybe hotter... since im inside my room.. and this time its running on 700/1000....

    Result : 79c(maximum)

:D :D :D i guess chasity needs to share the crown to me... haha..

Don't think so. Chastity's temp for 77-78C was with the back cover on and without a laptop cooler. No way your HDD temps can be that low with back cover on.

With back cover on and without laptop cooler HDD temps should be around 34-36C.

So.. no your temps are not under the same conditions of Chastity's

Ambient temp here is probably about 18C, and I have the back panel on, with no cooler. My HDD is sitting around 27C, 28C...so it isn't impossible at all.

hard to say but i love the icd 7 i just got an icd 24 from frozen cpu and just arrived today with arctic cooling mx-3, Shinetsu G 751(bought it off the local market) and a new Tuniq TX-4..and last night i was really busy and since ive put icd 7 at the last test i was surprised by the idle temps i got..its 16c now in beijing and my room temps is 21c without opening the window and service bay.and i got 74c(service bay closed) maxed and an idle of 43c(service bay closed) (which normally i get 45c-48c on the tunix)..

well i guess ill stick to icd 7 now..i really love the idle temps i got..ill guess i see further results along this week see if the temps is still the same or changed..

@ chastity im not trying to take anyones crown or anything im just comparing my temps and everone else and just trying to find what is the best thermal paste out there in the market..ill do some more test on the icd 7 tonight and see the lowest temps i can get with service bay off and window open and cooler pad underneath (cuz temps here (beijing) at night cud reach to 1c @ early november)

well i guess i could be counted as team icd 7..which has one of the coolest G73JH

Guys, don't take me too serious about the thermal crown, the whole affair is all tongue-in-cheek with me. :) What I am about is getting the info out about monitoring one's temps with the stock installations.

As for the best temps, we all have the same cooling systems, so ultimately we are going to hit a floor on how low we can get. I just think I stumbled upon getting there first by choosing the right paste and doing an optimal application and installation. For our heatsink, I believe the high viscosity paste is optimal due to the total lack of lapping and polishing of the heatsinks. (Screwdriver grooves not withstanding) So I find this search for the best temps more of a informal game. :)

So I invite everyone to repaste with ICD7 and come join me in the basement of thermal readings. \o/

@-keph-: It's getting cold here too! Tonight is expected to hit 0C, so I was planning of doing a fun Furmark with the laptop outside. :) Probably be about the same with the one done this morning, as that draft from the window was about 4C.

Just to add: When I first came to NBR, I remember everyone discussing temps and how there was this 95C Club. If your temps during gaming load do not exceed 95C, then you were considered to be OK. Then Furmark became a hot topic, and those nasty 100+C temps got around, including thermal shutdowns. (I myself had 102C temps, which probably would have gone higher if I hadn't killed the program to avoid it.)

And the odd part was that people seemed content with this. I wasn't content at all, so I decided to do something. Now I have two tubes of AS5 here, but after reading Ken's praises of ICD7, I decided to give it a shot. $7 a tube, no biggie. Then I saw how bad things were inside, plus how big if a temp drop I got with Furmark (-23C), plus add to that how many other people had similar conditions, and more were chiming in as time past and their TIM degraded, I knew public attention was needed.

And a big debacle I did make! Now the accepted good norm is down to 80C for game load, because we've all witnessed how much a simple repaste can improve the thermal performance of our laptops. I am sure there are a lot of G73JH owners out there who haven't upgraded anything, and have machines idling at 65-70C, and playing games at 100C or better. As long as the machine boots, and the game plays, they won't do anything until they start getting thermal shutdowns.

Then they'll show up here, and read the horror. :)

    PS- Happy Halloween Everyone!

lol yeah.. i never experience overheating.. i was iding at 60-62.. but one time that i played bfbc2.. it went up to 93C... i was worried of frying my gpu... so i started to gather info here of repasting and whatsoever... bought both AS5 and ICD7... so i did use ICD7 1st.. which gives me an excellent result... I'm still thinking if I'm gonna try AS5(maybe not anymore)... also just wanna share my 35 minutes repasting time that ive done.. hahahaha..
