May I ask what is the make and specific model of the LCD panels in the G51?

It's an AUO. I don't have access to the exact model right now.

Mine is the AUO15ed. You have to be spot center to see the screen correctly. It's not light bleeding I see, but the screen is very directional. Probably not more than +10deg -15 deg vertical before color changes either at the top or bottom.

Yup, this screen has very limited viewing angles. It's a shame, I think Asus uses low quality displays for their gaming laptops. The Dell Studio XPS 16 I sold had a far better screen (RGB LED with awesome viewing angles and colors). The gloss coating on these displays is pretty bad too, you can see the waves if you look closely.

I can live with a bit of wave. That studio screen is a higher quality. Is it really 15.6in@ 1900x1080?

The RGB LED one is 16" but the WLED one is 15.6". If we had the G60, we could've swapped for the Dell screen.

wow srsly i see the same thing...if i view it at a direct perpendicular to my face....who does that tho? im always above my screen's height so it is slanted away from me. with that view at blank screensaver, you cant see a bit of bleed. sorry dont have camera, but idk who uses a screen laptop at direct perpendicular....

all i can say is the screen is PERFECT for me. 1080p + plenty bright. the only bad thing....it gets dust on it that i have to clean...lol

Yes I didn't think that was bleed. I may have to RMA anyways because I do have some real bleed on the upper right side. It looks like the screen was pinched or pushed in. Really hate to have o do it but this will bother me constantly. I can see the white bleeding in.

So do all of the g51vx-a1 owners have that "bell shaped" effect on a dark screen? mk1freak, sound like you don't?

Yea mine doesn't have the bell shaped bleed or anyy bleed outside of normal edges,
maybe I'm lucky but it seems like I traded for a stuck red pixel though LOL >_<
I'll break out the slr and take some pics but my panels an AUO as well
Anyways for better viewing angles I picked up a 24" LG for that :p

So you didn't RMA for the stuck pixel? I think I might try to RMA for my bad right side. I always notice it. Otherwise if its displaying something relatively bright, its just great.

Got my 24" BenQ for good viewing too :D

    Hi everyone.
Does anyone knows if the full hd screen from a g51vx-A1 can be put in a g51vx-rx05 which comes with a wxga screen?

I just bought a g51vx-A1 and am really dissapointed in the screen. I am comparing the picture quality to that of my old laptop (lenovo 3000 n100 /w WXGA+ 1680x1050 screen) and also to my girlfriends macbook screen. The Asus screen is far far far inferior. Even my cheapo Sharp Aquos ln40e77u LCD TV looks superior to the Asus screen (colour and picture wise). I think its pretty dissapointing to see a screen like this in a higher end gaming laptop. Especially when I see the amount of thought put into the rest of the laptop. Very strange...

Has anyone here put a different model 15.6" 1080p screen into the laptop? I found one thread where sumone put a 15.4" screen in theirs but I want s perfect fit and 16:9 ratio if possible.

I think I am going to try swapping the screen for the one found in the Dell Studio 15 notebooks if it looks good. I will try looking at one before hand. Ill post here if I learn anything useful or do the swap.

You cannot PM other people until you are no longer within the "Newbie" category. I think you are automatically promoted when you have something like either 10 or 30 posts. (can't remember which one)

Looking through the screens they have for sale on the same site by part number alone, I found only 2 different screens (Im only listing the latest revision of each screen) that come in that size and resolution:

    ByPart#
    --------
B156HW01 V.5 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN FROM $44. HP ACER TOSHIBA DELL APPLE COMPAQ. Notebook screen, laptop display, notebook lcd, laptop tft, screen DELL, ACER lcd, screens SONY, lcd DELL, ACER lcd.

And I found one that comes in 1600x900 resolution:

    1600x900
    ---------
LP156WD1(TL)(D3) LAPTOP LCD SCREEN FROM $44. HP ACER TOSHIBA DELL APPLE COMPAQ. Notebook screen, laptop display, notebook lcd, laptop tft, screen DELL, ACER lcd, screens SONY, lcd DELL, ACER lcd.

It looks like the B156 is an AUO screen and the LP156 is an LG. Does this mean that these are the ONLY 15.6" 16:9 1080p screens on the market at the moment? If so this could explain why ASUS put such a poor screen in the laptop to begin with.

Im assuming from what Ive read on the forums that my laptop has the AUO screen. Id like to see what the LG looks like in comparison... Also would like to know if it is a direct fit (electrical connector wise).

Is that G53SW a 3DE model? If so, then you will need to find a 15.6" 1080p 120Hz screen.
