Both are being sold used where I work. Got a chance to look at both.

G73 has matte screen with terrible black levels(black background web pages looked half grey no matter the angle?), 5870, somewhat stiffer keyboard it seemed, and subwoofer. 6gb ram with 4 slots total. Performance score in win7 about 7.8+ in all but hd which was 5.9.

N71 has glossy screen that was ok, 5730, keyboard felt better though they looked the same, 4gb ram in 2 slots total. Performance score 6.7- 6.9 except ram and hd 5.9.

Everything else seemed the same except external design.

I surf the web, itunes etc 70% of the time, play games like mass effect 2, dragon age ii, etc the other 30%.

What do you think I should buy? G73 is faster but that screen sucks, and a replacement is another $100.

go for the G73, while ME2 is nothing now, DAII can be quite demanding when you push everything to max. Besides it could last you until 2012 or 2013 even.

And learn to ditch your itunes for something better like a real PC user. Don't be an Apple chump. If you like iTunes organization, Media Monkey is much better. Sound quality? iTunes shouldn't even be compared or considered for that. If you just like the simplisitic design go for Songbird. But if you're a true PC user who likes to customize his media player his liking, use Foobar 2000. Either way, ditch your iTunes, that's pathetic.

If anytime you are deciding about playing games go for the beefier system. 30% of your time gaming is a LOT of time. As said above, there isn't any discussion to be had.
