    NO MORE 1080p ??:SS

    i recently re-installed windows not knowing that my driver disc was at home(im in school). So i downloaded most of them from the asus website. the graphic driver however, i downloaded from nvidia but apparently it didn't include vga drivers. so i went back to asus to get the vga drivers and now my monitor works but there is no 1920*1080 resolution available. please help.

    Aww.
    Check my sig and please next time stay away from Asus gpu drivers.
    Also is not that nvidia drivers doesnt have vga drivers (does it even makes sense?) the problem here is that you need a modded inf, otherwise the installation will not complete.

    Again check my sig for a guide on how to use a modded inf and so on, it may help.

    is it possible for the vga cable to affect the resolution? now i have 1080 on my machine but not the monitor?

    Nope, probably your driver is messed up. Unless you have the best buy model which has a 1600*900 screen, you should have 1080p on your laptop screen.

    It would be cool if you post your exact model.

    i have a g53-jw... The laptop display IS 1080p but my 1080p monitor wont go above 1600x1024 i even tried to do the custom res think but 1080p wont show up in the menu...

    Reinstall the drivers using the Optional install, and select "Do a clean install..."

    i just did the clean install but nothing changed. Also when i plug out the vga cable the desktop doesn't come back to the laptop screen it still behaves as if an external display is connected.

    Ok. I have just confirmed that the problem is with vga because i tried my hdmi and i get full 1080p. i know i asked this before but can it be a problem with the vga cable? I think its the drivers though because it doesn't even detect when i unplug the cable, my nvidia control panel still shows an analog display connected. when i install the vga drivers from asus it changes the nvidia drivers completely. So how can i get vga working properly without changing from 280.26 drivers?

    Of Course you got 1080p via the cable, the tv you hooked up to was 1080p LOL.
    The only other way i would way is open the nvdia control panel and see if you can change the res from there(you can) but not sure in 1080p will show up
