A week or so ago I updated the drivers on my g73jh (the one from best buy, like X1 or something, 6GB of Ram, 1600x900 res). I went up to the newest drivers, which installed incorrectly, so I uninstalled and installed a few others ones until they actually worked (10.4) and now I get GSOD when I play cod4 or gta 4. I'm currently reformating my 16 gig flash drive (which takes FOREVER) to flash the vbios. Will the flash on a 209 bios work? Or should I just RMA it, since I'm pretty noob at this, and I could brick it?

I have, and I just want to know if it's worth the risk of a vbios flash, or just to RMA it.

They'll just flash it with the vbios anyways. At least if you try to do it yourself and you don't fail, you won't have to send it in. If you fail, you'll send it in anyways.

Once you create the usb bootable, the flash is painless. Don't fret over it and just do it.

One final question lol... Is it even necessary for me to install new ati drivers? If so, which ones.

AFAIK, you need to be on Bios 211 and the new VBios + Ati 10.8 Mobility (not the desktop drivers).

    what everyone else said.
just flash yourself if you brick it send it.
saves you time if you flash it right..not hard =.=
use winflash for vbios as you can reflash it until it says successful. either way works thru bootable usb or windows both has there risks

    Don't use winflash :(

Just follow the instructions posted in the GSOD sticky. Seriously, a monkey can do this update, it really isn't that hard. There are disclaimers on everything, but that literally is solely because while it is incredibly unlikely the happen, sometimes things just don't work. Regardless, like everyone has said, why not try to flash it anyway, if you were going to RMA it anyway, worst case is you brick it before you send it in....

Everyone has different opinions. IMO WinFlash is fine. It's actually my choice for flashing the vBios. I've already bricked mine using Dos Flash. But with WinFlash it will tell me if the flash failed. I can then create a different vBios or flash with the default and get a success. This means no bricked GPU.
