Was this a hard drive swap with the original C drive, or you adding the SSD as a second drive?

Can your BIOS see it, or you just can't see it in Windows.. because you probably need to partition and format before windows sees it.

You updated the BIOS recently, or today when swapping the SSD?

Since you now can't see you original HDD, I'd probably go back in the bios and restore the default settings from the menu option.

So SATA port 2 is not detecting anything you throw at it? Set the BIOS to default and see if it helps. If nothing try clearing BIOS settings by taking out the battery on the motherboard. Doesn't seem like an SSD problem, more like SATA port 2 is acting up.

Only have the SSD in the laptop when installing Windows 7, this is because Windows Vista and onward, it makes a 100MB system boot partition, this will only be made once on the primary drive. Since your HDD probably has that partiiton, it'll cause problems if the partition is not on the SSD (since you probably want to format it later and that'll break your OS). Also, make sure your HDD boot priority is set to SSD first and then HDD.

Try changing the SATA port to IDE/Compatibility mode in the BIOS setup.

Thanks everyone! My G73 finaly could identify both SSD and HDD.
but... the machine still not running quite well. the problem is: when I turn on My G73, sometime the SSD will gone, it cannot be identified both in BIOS and Window. the chance to getting that is about 20% of time. I think.
it looks like still have something wrong within my G73. :(
at the moment, I have win 7 OS on both SSD and HDD. the SSD with WIN 7 prof version(new); the HDD with WIN7 Home(original).
I have already set my SSD as the primary drive when boot up.
    and also
    I checked on my BIOS
My HDD is connect to Port 0
My DVD-rom is connected to Port 1
and My SSD is on Port 6 .
More question, is it something wrong with that Port 6 ???? :?
    anyone know ??

    Does not sound right LOL

I believe the main drive (the right one) is port 0
The second drive (the left one) is port 1

This is not an uncommon problem with SSDs. I had the exact same issue with mine, other people have had the same issue. The drive was defective in my case. Search my posts for "Phoenix Pro" to find my story. Our drives have the same controller, so it seems to me that Sand Force has some quality control issues.

    Here are some solutions...

    1) Switch from AHCI to IDE mode in BIOS, just a AllUrGroceries said. That may help it be detected.
    2) Check and see if the SSD has a firmware update, if so, do it. You will need to hook the SSD up to working computer to do this.
    3) Perform a secure erase of the SSD, google "secure erase", to find out how. This may fix the SSD.
    4) If none of that works, RMA the drive, it is defective.

Did you flash your VBIOS to the latest one?

Lets put the SSD aside for a moment. Can your laptop bootup off the original HDD drive and load windows correctly? If not, why? What setting did we change to make it not boot up? Fix that. Once it boots off the original HDD and running properly, then install the SSD as a second drive (D: E: or what ever). Boot the laptop off of the HDD, and look for the SSD in windows, can you see it? If not, fix that using the fixes above.

If you cannot see the drive as a secondary drive, use Windows 7 Disk Management (hit start and type "disk management" into windows search) to see if it is there, if so, format it.

I would not worry about trying to install Windows 7 on it until you can successfully see it as a 2nd drive. This will save you headaches, doing it the other way around will have you swapping out drives and changing bios settings all day. I know this from experience.

More than likely it's a firmware issue on the SSD. I would focus on that first and get the drive updated.

I agree with chastity, I wouldn't worry about the vbios until the SSD is sorted out. Any luck with the suggestions I gave?

I have done what you said for the first step as least. without the SSD, and HDD on the middle bay, Windows is working fine. then without the HDD; and SSD on the middle bay, Windows is working fine.

but then with both SSD and HDD on middle and left bay. HDD on the middle and SSD on the left bay. then the problem came out, when turn on the machine, sometime the SSD would not be able to indentily, rest of the system is running quite well, and I would not be able to find the SSD on the Disk management as well.

after I swap both SSD and HDD. SSD on the middle bay, HDD on the left bay. I could see both SSD and HDD on Window. of course, in Disk management as well. but I just got another Blue screen :( , when I was trying to transfer my files out of HDD.

What I am thinking is.... :( left bay is ......

Maybe you just have a bad connection on the SSD as you don't have a hard drive caddy.

Possible your SSD is not being detected or loosing connection/power during boot and data transfers.

Put your SSD in the caddy (from HDD) and secure the thing in correctly, make sure all is running and windows boots.

Then worry about getting the old HDD connected and transfering data.
