Need help restoring the OS !

Hello all, today I was formatting my asus (G53JW) and accidentally I forgot it was running on battery so I went to take a shower and came back, and the battery had run out, I guess you all know what happens then.
So I tried to restore the OS by using the DVDs I created from the recovery tool, finally all the 5 cds were placed and it said the image was restored succesfully, then the computer restarts. When its booting it says the "Windows is loading files" bar, then it fills up really quick and it goes to "Starting Windows". After that, a grey wallpaper shows up, then a command prompt and then dissapears and this is where it gets stuck. It just stays on that grey wallpaper all day. I can move the mouse, but theres nothing to do with it.
I tried booting in safe mode but it just shows a black screen with "Safe mode" on the corners.
Please help me, its starting to frustrate me that I cant find out how to do it. I would gladly appreciate all your help!

When you formatted if you only formatted the C partition you should still have the recovery partiton. Try starting the computer and hitting F9 after post (B4 windows loads) and restore this way.
OR IF you have a win 7 DVD try this What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?

To get a win 7 DVD G73 Series Driver and Application Reference
(Win 7 Univer... )
Once you are up and running create an image to an external hard drive with Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore
create system image, then you will never need the 5 DVD's or the ASUS recovery program.

 

Thanks for your reply. I was formatting the entire HD with two partitions, then the process got interrupted by running out of battery. Pressing F9 just takes me nowhere and back to that grey wallpaper.

I guess Ill have to download that dvd on another computer then. Thanks!!

Guess Im not the only one. Someone must have gone trough this and figured out.

 

So you are all stalling on the recovery when using the CD Recovery? I would do as JOSEA suggested and use the F9 Recovery. I use the single partition myself since I have 2 HDD's.

Adliner: You can boot from the Windows Install CD, and use the installer to delete the old partitions and start over. DO NOT DELETE THE RECOVERY PARTITION. (The 19.5GB one)

 

The F9 thing only worked when I was first restoring the hdd before it got interrupted...
By using the windows install cd do you mean the one from the webpage mentioned above?? Because asus dont come with windows install cd ??

 

Dude that is correct, you will have to download and burn the DVD. AFAIK Asus stopped shipping Win 7 DVD a while ago. Mine did have one as well as a driver disk (but that was 15 months ago)

As JOSEA said, you can download and burn the provided ISO on my driver page, or download Home Premium from the available links on a good Google search.

 

Chast, may i ask what would be the consequences of deleting that 19.5gb partition?

 

zafota, good Q, I don't want to but in, the only thing the 19.5 gig partition is good for is to get you back to the factory install - stock drivers, etc. Handy if you go to sell it I guess. Although if syou have an issue ASUS may suggest using this partition to restore. I and many here recommend get the OS running as you want and do an image to an external HD or DVD's so you can quickly get back up an running if the hard drive fails, or if you want to upgrade the hard drive. Also I recommend incremental backups of data files also.
I do an image of C every other month (first HDD) and do incremental data backups as needed. (which reside on the second HDD)

 

The partition is the Recovery partition, and can be used to restore the machine to Factory new, which is great if you ever decide to sell it. Even tho I can set it up from scratch, and have, I keep it on the boot drive anyway.

If it's removed, you loose the F9 at POST option. (Well, you can make a whole new one from scratch, but that's way over a forum thread conversation.)

If you need it removed, you can use a partition archive application, like Acronis, that can make an image of it and stored elsewhere. Then restore it back if ever needed, or selling your system.

 

hi i burned 5 dvds using ai recovery software. Now i decided to use that recovery.. thewhole process was completed in 55 minutes and the software displayed 'recovery image created successfully' and it restarted. After restart, the system boots > displays 'windows is loading files'> then the same gray wallpaper that was there during ai recovery process> command prompt opens with 'X:/partiton/system/cmd.exe then it closes> nothing happens for few minutes, mouse pointer can be moved but nothing else> system restarts> displays error 'reboot and select proper boot disk media'... whats happening?? also one more problem, i have installed 8 gb ram in g53.. but only 4gb was detected in both bios and by windows.. CPU-z and HWinfo detects all the ram sticks(4*2gb) what happened? sorry for the lengthy post.. please help guys

 

Ahhh, So its a recovery partition. I guess it would be pointless to delete it since its just like 20gb.

Even though I'm not planning on selling my laptop(Im still inlove), I'll just leave it there. Thanks for the info JOSEA and Chastity!
