Hi, im new here, and i cant find anything on google or anywhere, for this problem SPECIFIC to asus... since the recovery disk is different then using the windows disk...
so the issue is i have a G60VX and im trying to recovery the HD from the recovery disk, and when you put the disk in you get to choose the language and then you get only 3 options, to install windows...
for it to be recovered right to the first partition
recover the HD altogether to one partition
and recover HD and have two partitions...
and so far i have tried all 3 options, and i keep getting the same error when i try to boot up windows...
which is the \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt black screen, and it will tell me to insert the windows disk and go to "repair windows" but i dont have the disk..\
at this point, i have no idea what to do, and the computer is unusable, so any help would be wonderful.

Welcome to the forum, What you need is a copy of the Vista OS on CD or USB. I can not seem to find a link to download vista though, is it possible you could borrow a CD from someone?
-
thank you
its actually windows 7 64-bit.... its a gaming laptop...
but that brings me to another question, can i use ANY windows 7 disk to do the repair? is that my only course of action, or is it possible that i can just replace the HD and use the recovery CD? -
GREAT, I was going to suggest dumping VISTA for 7 (preferably) or 8.

heres the thing, that link is great, but i cant even get into windows....
no safe mode no nothing, when it goes to boot, its gets to the very first file (config file) and stops and then i get the ntoskrnl.exe error...and then either i can reboot or try a different mode of booting the computer where NONE of them work
so basically i have nothing but a laptop and a recovery disk at this point... and its not recovering anything.. -
My bad, I guess you have to go to another machine to download the from the link in the spoiler, then you will need to burn the .iso file to a blank DVD, then you can try to recover your machine (make sure BIOS boot order is CD/DVD drive first). If recovery does not work out, then you can just do a clean install of windows 7 (I assume your computer came with a driver CD, if not you need to first go to Asus's site to grab the drivers ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G60VX

ok cool, so if i burn that to DVD, it will auto start im guessing? and that is all of windows 7?
i do also have a drivers and utility disk, that it makes me install after the fact, but doesn't fix anything...
so awesome, i will d/l the iso its going to take awhile, but ill keep posted if it works or not, thanks for all the help, really appreciate it -
ok unless i did somethnig really wrong, which i d/l'd the file unzipped it and burned it to a DVD,
but i have vista on the computer that works, and all it does is drag and drop and then you close the session, is that "burning" it...
i dont know if there is something else, or a different way to burn, but the CD is not doing anything, it hangs for a min then goes to the error screen... -
Download the file
-Extract the iso file from it
-Download img burn
-Insert dvd-r into drive
-Select iso file
-Hit burn -
It sounds like the machine (G60) is not booting from DVD at this point. If you burned the .iso file to DVD it should be a little over 3 GIG and should have taken 10 minutes or more to "burn"
With the DVD in the G60, try powering on the G60 then press ESC key a few times , you should see an alternate boot menu where you can select the DVD drive with you arrow keys, Please see the private message I sent also. Good Luck gotta get some sleep now! -
i got your msg, thanks...
well as for an update, i tried twice to run the CD the first time, it got hung up on the update part of the installtion and then an error msg, the second time it ran and install, but on restart it had a disk read error, so i had to restart the process again...so i gave up for the night
the computer has 3 partitions, and i can delete 2 of them but not the last one, which i belive some how still have windows on it... but i tried to install windows on one of the newly deleted partitions, and thats when it went through but screwed up on restart...
then for the 3rd time, i tried to repair, and it just sat on "searching for a windows installation"
so im starting to think there might be something wrong with the CD/DVD drive... -
Before you do anything test you hdd, if you have a bad hdd you should probably replace it or at least repair it before you try to reinstall windows.
Download Hirens boot cd - http://www.hirensbootcd.org/files/Hirens.BootCD.15.2.zip
Extract iso and Burn
Start disc, select dos programs, select hard disk tools, select hdd sentinel. If there are no errors and if the health is at a reasonable level then you can reinstall windows on it.
If you don't want anything saved on the machine you can just nuke the hard drive. That will ensure there is absolutely nothing left on it. After you nuke the hdd you can boot from the win7 install disc and install with no issues (there will be noting at all on the hdd).

sorry was gone all day, football...
but i got my hands on a windows 7 disk and i deleted all the partitions and formatted the drives, so there is nothing, and right now im just sitting at expanding windows files for about 10 mins now... sigh... i will give that HDD thing a shot in a few... thanks -
guys thanks for all your help, i got it up an running with the windows CD, i think i just made a mistake with the iso, and still had it boot from CD and wasnt paying attention... anyways, thanks again, were good.../high five
