Hi, sorry I don't know much about computers. I think that my laptop is the g51vx, I am not sure. It is a white 15 inch laptop. Anyways, I have a sound recording program that can record using the built in mic in my laptop. My mic seems to work for this program but when I try to use it on Steam, it stops working. I haven't tried any other programs like Skype or Ventrillo but why won't my mic work for Steam? Steam won't detect that I have a mic. I also don't know much about drivers or anything. My friend installed everything for me before giving me the laptop. He also doesn't know why the mic stops working for Steam.

Oh yea, my mic would work for the sound recording program if I never tried it on Steam, but once I use it on Steam, the mic would stop working until I restart my laptop.

it could be using the wrong device, like on my ventrilo there is 2 mics on input devices, if i remember correctly only one is the correct one, or maybe mine is just not installed in correctly.
