Hello everyone! This is my first time posting here, although I have been visiting these forums a lot lately. I got a G53SW (Core i7, GTX460M) about a month ago and decided to drop an SSD in there. My first choice was a Corsair Force 3 120GB. I could never get it to run Windows 7, even after following practically every advice out there for getting SSDs to work with your system. I tried FW upgrades, AHCI/IDE switching, different Win7 disks, secure erase, different SATA ports. Nothing works. So I suggest G53 owners to stay away from Corsair Force 3. Anyway, I returned the Corsair and got a Patriot Pyro 120GB instead. After some initial trouble with the BIOS, I switched it out to the right SATAIII port and everything has been shipshape since then. I get 500-550MB/s R/W speeds and 12 second boot ups. My final hassle has been getting the palmrest to fit back onto the case. You know, the long, black, rubberized piece of plastic that has the touchpad in it. I can't even get the lock the lock to slide all the way across. The top part always sticks out a bit and when I push really hard and click it in, the corresponding bottom part pops up. It has been an extremely frustrating experience. Has anybody else encountered this problem? Does the SSD in the right bay affect anything? Any help will be greatly appreciated. :D

try to hold the rubberized piece down and then slide the lock over. I had to use excessive force to get it to even move, but when it locked, the rubber piece doesn't move a millimeter now. and be sure to insert whatever tool you are using to move the lock all the way in. i'm guessing there's a second piece of metal under the lock that you see that also has to move.

I have tried that too. I use my left arm to press down on the pad and try to slide the lock in place with my right. Even after using 'excessive' force it does not budge after a certain point. Is there any tool or technique I need to use to get it right? I have attached a couple of images to give you guys an idea about what's wrong. The first picture shows light leaking from status LEDs in the front. That is because there is a good millimeter gap between the palm rest and the frame of the laptop. The second one shows the top corner part which looks like it is lifted up. In fact, from what I noticed on another G53 at the store it should be almost flush with the rest of the frame. I hope the pictures help. Thanks guys!
