I've been pretty busy with upgrades on my new G73, it seems. SSD, new gaming mouse, and I'm now really tempted to pull the trigger on a new display.

This is a BB model so it has the 1600x900 display. I'm honestly pretty dissatisfied with it; the viewing angles are pretty shallow, and while the colors are fairly accurate there's the 'screen door' effect that I'm getting tired of. I also like higher-res screens, my ThinkPad T500 has a WSXGA+ display that I'm quite used to; dropping both horizontal and vertical pixels on a physically larger screen is pretty unimpressive.

After some searching I think I've found a suitable replacement, the AUO B173HW01. There are two versions I'm looking at, the V4 and V5. I've found both on Feebay for around the same price, although the V4 is a little more expensive(about $10). The V5 is matte and the V4 is glossy.

The V4 is supposed to be a high-gamut screen(95%?), while the V5 takes a hit(the same source said 60%). Obviously the matte display will reduce display reflections which is a bonus. Does anyone have any experience(and more importantly, pictures) of the V4? I found a thread on the Sager section of the V5 and it looks really nice, but I'd love to see a comparison before pulling the trigger.

hello, I got in my g73 a V0, since finding a v4 from any retailer at an honest price is pretty damn hard (in europe at least is almost impossible without paying it something like 200 euro).

I only can tell you that mine should have the same color gamut as the MATTE one (so the v5) and I am pretty satisfied with the LCD, is very very good. (and the v5 should have a color gamut of 75 not 60.

    My suggestion?
If you hate reflection go with the v5, if you do not care go for the v4, that's the only thing that matters, both screens are great.

Thanks for the advice. The matte display is rather tempting as I'm used to them on my ThinkPads and they really do cut the glare out. I'm not really using this machine for any photo editing or digital artwork(though may be doing so in the future), so I may be just fine with the reduced gamut. I also have an external IPS monitor I can use just in case.

So, based on that I just snagged the V5. I'm sure it'll do pretty well, so I'm quite excited. Thanks!
