I installed around 30 minutes ago the modified BIOS from the following thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...um/670921-asus-g73jh-bd-prochot-bios-mod.html

Everything worked fine, I enabled only "Fast Boot" and restarted the device. After a restart the notebook asked me as usual for my BIOS password and then I noticed that nothing happens when I press the buttons...

So the keyboard is basically disabled on boot now, also external keyboards / USB devices in general seems to get no power until the password is entered. Only the internal screen works (External screen stopped working) and the HDDs and stuff are spinning.

So I have a real big issue now because I use the notebook for work and need it till Monday again else I'm quite "xxxxed".

I used already this reset switch but it doesn't seems to work, a simple BIOS reset would probably fix ... and the NB has no more warranty anyway since March.

Thank you for the fast reply :)

Well that should work of course but the battery seems to be well hidden under the mainboard so I would have to disassemble my whole G73 just to reset the password :/

or make a bootable cd and put the 213 bios into it and rename it as AMIBOOT.ROM and insert the cd and turn off your laptop , soon after you have turned off , remove the battery and power adapter , and connect the power adapter , hold ctrl + home and press powerbutton , keep holding the ctrl + home until the bios flash starts.

When I press ctrl+home (pos1 on German keyboard?) nothing really happens. The drive is not even reading the CD before I enter the password.

Odd, are you sure you did the following?

    1. Flashed the BIOS.
    2. Powered off the system.
    3. Powered on the system and went through a normal boot up.
    4. Powered off/rebooted to enter the BIOS and change settings?

Are you SURE you did not disable any USB settings in the BIOS? The reason I'm asking is because all the settings in this BIOS (unless the user had modified them in their current BIOS) are set to the defaults. The ONLY changes are that the settings are "unhidden", nothing is modified.

I will test this when I get home from work.

Please reply with the EXACT settings you have used so I may test it.

Nothing will read until you enter the BIOS password. It's locked until then. I'm unsure why you are experiencing this issue. Nothing should be different.

If you're really stuck the only way to fix would be to remove the battery. Fast boot is a hidden setting. Maybe this is why it was hidden o_O.

Now we should all note to ourselves, remove the BIOS password before flashing.

    The fun of testing haha.

At least it flashed fine and the battery removal should fix it. Could be worse I guess.

Full disassembly is around 1-2hours. You can use this video as a reference if you come to a conclusion that you have to pull the CMOS battery. Make sure the CMOS battery is pulled for over a min before putting it back in tho.

Well yes I strong suggest everyone here to remove the BIOS password before you flash it or play around with the new available settings :p

I will start to disassemble it now, If I can get it working again I can try to enable "Fast Boot" again to verify that it was the cause.

Sounds good, send me a PM with the exact settings you used so I can test/remove them in the BIOS so no one else has this issue. :)

Well I reached now after 15-20min~ the battery and will use this chance directly to re-paste my CPU/GPU, fix the touchpad issues caused by alu foil etc.

Don't remove the foil. It made it worse on my touchpad lol

You can boot it with it all apart. Did removing and reinserting the battery resolve the issue?

It seems more people have been helped than hindered by G73JH touchpad defoiling. I got rid of the foil about 3 or 4 months ago when I repasted the GPU, and it's still working perfect. Not a single spazz out, and I didn't bother going down to the "breadboard" to remove the glue. I would have, but was confused as to what needed to come apart, planned to do it if the touchpad wasn't fixed.

Worth a try, and if it makes it worse you can always put it back.

I didn't assembled it yet but I made a first test without the case (Yes I really removed everything cause it was full of dust balls). The keyboard seems to be working again after the BIOS reset (By removing the hidden bloody battery), I'm at least able to enter the BIOS password now.

    Perfect!

I'll test this again, maybe it was a fluke one off.

Well its re-assembled now and so far everything seems to work again :)

The positive side effect is that the CPU/GPU got new thermal paste and way lower temps again (CPU 46°C, GPU 47°C atm). Used cheap Artic MX-2 paste didn't had something else here but it seems to be better than the Asus stock paste.

Oh and I removed the alu-foil from the touch pad and removed also the button holder as suggested in the following Youtube video -> ASUS G73JH - Touchpad fix and improvement - YouTube
It works great, the touchpad is not mocking around anymore and the buttons are easier pressable now :)

By the way the additional BIOS options are really useful, but everyone here should take care what you change and really don't use this "Fast Boot" option for now.

Good to hear. I use Arctic MX-2 on the "test" machine as well. The temps are even lower than your temps but my fans on that machine are stuck at full speed all the time. It's cheap paste but I don't see anything wrong with it.

Glad everything is working for you :).
