Hey everyone, I was updating my bios tonight using FTK software in dos. The procedure only briefly started when the entire computer shut off. The battery was in and the computer was plugged into the wall. The computer has remained completely dead. Nothing turns on, the power button does nothing, the LEDs on the front don't even come on when it's plugged in. I've dealt with a bad BIOS before, but never knew it could do this.

I'm surprised nothing worked in the emergency bios recovery thread over at the ROG forums.

If it's that dead then about the only thing you can do is return it.

I just don't understand how this could cause the computer to be completely unresponsive. Literally nothing. I cannot return it as I bought it second hand a few months ago. I could possibly see about getting a new motherboard for it.

The bios tells the system how to respond to the button press.

Worst case you can get the bios chip removed and programmed with the correct one manually.

Like I said, a new motherboard should not have been required, the old one is still recoverable at an electronics repair shop.

Well, I got a really good deal on it, and there are no electronic repair shops within quite a distance from here, and now maybe I get the bad one fixed and make some money back

Yep, it should be worth doing.
