I can't seem to play streaming video from Netflix site on my G73. I have 3 laptops on the same router, with same security, yet I keep getting an error that there is an internet problem. I talked with Netflix tech support and they just preferred IE, preferred site setting and accept 1st and 3rd party cookies in the browser. This did nothing. The question is, is there something ASUS did (software wise-setting?) that would be keeping me from watching streaming videos?
I can watch without a problem on other 2 laptops, so its not an internet issue, its got to be a setting on the G73.

    Little help?

    Thanks in advance

Do they use Flash or anything like that? I don't know too much about the service.

There's no Asus settings that have anything to do with the operating system or web browsers, or even the NIC (unless the NIC is turned off by the Asus Wireless Console).

What's the exact error you're seeing and what software is reporting the error?

Do you have Silverlight installed on that ASUS G73?

@ Chastity- I would assume they do.

@ MarkS- Thanks, I thought I would see if anyone else may have had this issue. When I "watch videos instantly" from their website on my 7805u(Win7x64 ult) and 2104u(Win 7 x32 starter) (below in sig) in any browser, hard wired through my router, no problem. But since I got this G73 last week, I tried to watch instantly and I get, at a point the movie should be loading( blue spiral dots), A message saying "internet connection error or..." Error code 8101-????.
Its a Netflix error. Can't remember exactly what it was, at work now. After several attempts, called Netflix customer support and went through the stuff mentioned before. They basically said, we have done all we can, you'll have to call my cable company to find out why.
At that point I did this, and said thanks anyway. Its not my connection, its got to be some setting on my laptop(G73) that even Netflix tech support doesn't know about.

    @Aye - Don't know, I'll have to check.

BTW, I have Win 7 Home Premium on this.

Silverlight is installed if you have the blue dots.

Right click the Silverlight plugin (where you see the blue spiral dots) and choose "Silverlight"

On the "Playback" tab make sure protected content playback is enabled.

On the "Application Storage" tab make sure application storage is enabled.

If you don't see these options then try updating the Silverlight runtime from silverlight.net/getstarted

    Same fail on all browsers?

The exact error message/error code will help too :)

Try using Windows Media Center Netflix application, does it perform differently than Netflix using your browser?

Okay, On the G73, I never see the blue spiral dots. I only see the blue dot spiral on my other 2 laptops that work fine. I'll have to check when I get home in about 2 hrs to see if thats the issue and also replicate exact error code.

Don't know, didn't think to use it. I was in my chrome browser perusing through netflix website when this all happened. Will try that when I get home.

As much as I love Chrome, it still screws up for me. I always keep Mozilla updated and ready to go.

Yeah, I know Chrome had its quirks, but I think the latest version is its best yet. I use Firefox at work and was going to load that up later but didn't think a browser would be the issue as I have stated before that on my other 2 laptops I can view Netflix just fine and they both have Chrome.

EDIT: Let me just state that Netflix Tech support does not support Chrome browser, thats what I was told

FWIW, Chrome wasn't supported by Silverlight until more recently (Chrome 4+). Of course Netflix could still not support Chrome.

I only asked about trying different browser versions to narrow down the problem and see if it's browser-setting related. Silverlight certainly works on Firefox and IE.

Okay and the error code is : N8101-106 internet connection problem. Have Silverlight and have the latest. The 2 tabs you mention are as you suggested.

EDIT: Same fail on both IE and Chrome

Sooo...netflix gives an error code but their tech support doesn't know the specifics of the code....great help :)

I've seen claims netflix is broken on Silverlight 4. Is it possible your other laptops have Silverlight 3 and only the G73 has SIlverlight 4? If so, you could try this.

There's also other potential issues - Netflix site not trusted, firewall or other internet security settings, ...

Major fail on Netflix's part if they broke on Silverlight 4 (I'm majorly involved in Silverlight development, both for business and with Microsoft...)

Okay. Tried another connection hardwired as well and get the same thing. I have now tried youtube and Hulu and don't have a problem streaming video from them. I have netflix as a trusted site in the "sites" properties area in both browsers. Can get to Netflix, browse through selections, just can't stream a video. Bummer.

EDIT: I do keep getting a 'bad certificate from this website" message from KIS 2010 but I have continued anyway. Happens in both browsers.

    Internet security! Good clue!

There's a setting that needs to be tweaked and I don't know what it is LOL. I bet they know at Kaspersky (forums?) though :)

Have you ever updated the Azureware NIC drivers, or changed any of their settings? If not, try updating them. And I'll assume you have not yet mastered finding stuff on Asus' website yet, so here's the latest.

Netflix streaming works fine on my G73
Just a guess but you may have reached the limit on the number of devices you can use with netflix streaming.
On my account netflix allows up to 6 devices including computers for internet streaming. You mentioned that you have 2 other PCs that you use but how many devices total?
If you login to your account and go to "your account & help" then scroll down to "manage netflix ready devices and computers" you can see what devices are enabled for streaming on your account.
BTW I love this service. I can stream HD video to my xbox360 and watch on my 40" toshiba 120Hz 1080p HDTV and it looks to me as good as a Bluray.

Can you do the same on your G73? I'm thinking of getting the service and my G73 is my HDMI device (well, besides my upscaling DVD player)...

I've actually never tried to connect my g73 to my HDTV via HDMI but I would imagine that it would look the same as it does on my PC but with a larger screen.
Thing about Netflix streaming on your PC is it's much lower quality video than the image that you can get on other devices such as game consoles.
The advantage however is that you can use it anywhere you have a halfway decent PC and broadband internet.

Already been there. The certificate issue even came up in IE browser when I was on phone with tech and he said they always get that. KIS has all permissions to allow this to happen. All info on Netflix issues in KIS forums are over 2 years old.

I don't think its a Silver light issue. I have the same versions(4) of Silverlight on the 7805u and it plays fine.

Thanks Chastity, I'll hold on to this right now. I just can't believe that I would have to change drivers right out of the box to watch Netflix streaming videos. The netbook I bought in March plays Netflix just fine and didn't have to jump through any hoops to do it. I'm thinking its something more simple than that.

I have now run this straight through my cable modem (sans router) and still get same error.

Netflix only streams in 720p maximum if I remember correctly. I use my G73 to stream Hulu to my 46" Samsung 1080p HD flat screen tv. Maximum resolution on Hulu seems to be 420p, but it still looks good.

Thanks BillyRay. I wouldn't expect more than 720p and I'm pretty familiar with Netflix's media streaming since they decided to go with Silverlight.

What doesn't make sense is why would the quality be worse through my G73 than through a game console? That doesn't make sense to me...AFAIK the same codecs are used across platforms (e.g. Silverlight, WPF, and xbox).

    @Evil Claw:

I'm out of ideas, but it really seems like just a configuration issue. There's no reason you should have to update drivers or anything like that.

Make sure "*.netflix.com" is trusted in IE and also in any internet security you're running....that's all I got.

DONE! Fixed. After 40 minutes on phone with Netflix Support today it was narrowed down to a setting within .....KASPERSKY. The setting for " Encrypted Connections Scan" was on, turned it off. I didn't see this as being different from other laptops as its buried on a second page.
Like I said, it was a stupid question.

Thank you all for your support. It's much appreciated. Have a great weekend.

    SOLVED:

I found this topic through google, I hope I can help someone else with this. I just encountered the same error as posted earlier in this topic: N8101-106 internet connection problem.

In my case, I had netflix open on 3 computers connected to the same router. I closed all instances of netflix and power cycled the modem and router after which the problem disappeared.

I finally signed up a few weeks ago. Streaming works great on the G73JH-> HDMI -> Full HD LCD TV with a 10Mbps connection!
