This is very interesting. Looks like brushed aluminum on the palm rest?
Also, I wonder what hardware we are gonna see in this notebook.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
depends on the weight and power, I hope at least a 660m, but I know Im going to be ''surprised'' by a 650m
-
Nice! If the price is right I might pick myself one up! Currently looking at the M14x R2 but no impressed with its size.
-
Well i was looking into a U2442n but ill see how this develops first.. What do you think price is going to be on this thing? Less than the current 15 inch? If its the same as the 2442n im sold
-
Looks interesting...
-
Haha, I was just thinking this. Sadly though, giving it a 660m would make it on par with the 15.6in, which seems really weak.
To call it gaming at all, it should have a 660m, but doing so would just make the 15.6in look even weaker imo.
I don't understand why it couldn't be:
14in: 660m (Optimus)
15.6in: 670m
17in: 675m or 680m. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
let me correct for you, that would make it a real republic of GAMERS -
Hell yes, I would
But I don't have a G-series ._. -
Huzza!!!!!! We have 3 TripleHead2Gos in my class, Time to see if I can daisy chain them.
-
Haha oh yes.
It's such a shame that Asus has such good styling and chassis but offers such lousy choices. And no love for Ati?
I still cant believe that last gen 53sx had the 128bit 560m.. -
Doubt this will be in a "14" profile though.
-
Hmm, how about thunderbolt guys?
-
It's probably called G46VW.
I found this on ASUS site:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G46VW
No spec yet, so far only the user guide for Windows 8 is on there. -
the site now shows the pic of the lappy..but still no specs.
-
You guys think it will be released sometime in october? Only reason why they would reveal it this late in the month right?
-
mayb, win8 is launching next month remember?? ohh asus stop making us wait and show wuds in the hood.
-
If this thing released w/ the same cinderblock sized power supply/ cord. Imma hit the g series team w/ it!

What's wrong with carrying a brick everywhere you go?
What GPU do you think this will pack? A GTX 670MX? -
Place your bets on if it's on a smaller profile than the M14X. I'm going with "yes".
Also, it's going to have the GT 650M GDDR5. Just accept it now and spare yourselves the disappointment. -
im fine with that.. as long as the price is right.. im not paying for a 14 inch gaming book thats 1,400+ when i can get the same GPU (but with an overclock 640m) in a ultrabook form factor for 1,100$
-
Oh it should be $999.99, imo.
-
Yeah but look at the current 15 inch.. 1,400 or whatever.. I just dont want to pay that much for an i5 and a 650m when i can get it 200$ cheaper.. So i hope your right 900-1,000 ill get it with an i7 if possible..
-
This looks really good, but because for long periods of time at home, I don't have my laptop plugged into a monitor so I like the bigger 15.6 inch laptop. I know this might sound dumb, but I kind of hope that the laptop does not have a 1080p screen. I think its probably going to have a 650m in it so if the native resolution was lower the laptop would perform better.
-
Anything less than 1600 x 900 and its a nobuy..
but knowing G series it will be a high res display im sure.. 1600 x 900 would be perfect IPS would be better (i think.. IPS is the good one right? xD) -
looks like their really trying to compete directly with the AW m14x.
-
Well, I found some specs, a video and pics from this Vietnamese site:
[Trên tay] Laptop ch
Not sure how legit the specs are but it's packed with a GTX 660m but the resolution is only 1366x768. I hope that can be upgraded to at least 1440x900. If these specs hold up, I can't see this being less than $1300-$1400. Not sure how I feel about that. At that point it would be more expensive than the G55VW. -
If they don't offer a 1600x900 or 1080p upgrade option then this laptop is a failure for me and they wont get my money.
-
I have to say, I'm actually really looking forward to seeing what this laptop has to offer. My 3820TG is just about ready to be replaced!
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
wow! check that hot bezel! this thing is going to be at least 15'' in size, and most probably in weight
-
Do they offer screen upgrade options normally?? But i mean this thing is pretty beasty.. loving the specs so far but if its going to be more than $1300+ then yeah thats way out of my price range.. and of course windows 8 which means it wont launch until that does.. so end of october.. do I wait or go ahead and buy a u2442n and overclock the hell out of it? lol
oh and I wonder how much it weighs.. -
tht specs will crush the alienware m14x and u2442n , and looks hot!! hope its configurable, like change tht ssd and harddrive to a momentus xt 750gb hybrid which shoud reduce the price, increase the rez if poss and reduce tht ram, god 12gb?? we dnt need so much ram., why such a less rez for a gtx660m,
wait for g46!!! u got a way better cooling system, u can overclock this way better
no harm waiting for a mnth mre!
-
If it comes out around the $1k price point and has the specs that are comparable to the M14x, I'm sold on it!
-
Im sold on it too.. specs are nice and we wernt surprised by a 650m I dont really give a crap about screen res anymore.. 1600 x 900 is good for desktop space but gaming you'll end up lowering res to 768 anyway I just want the weight at about 5 pounds.. anything more and i might as well save up and get a blade 2
and in all honesty were waiting for windows 8 to launch thats when this laptop will hit the market.
EDIT: My friend works at bestbuy and they get these asus g laptops in.. he gets a 10% discount.. thats 130$ off whatever the price will be for these machines im getting one. -
Need 1920x1080p /:
Also, I think if this comes with a 660M it would be the same as a Y580
EDIT: Just looked at the vietnamese site, need more interface ports... -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I wonder why they didnt make this 15'' basically you could fit that screen size in there, and did the same thing for the g55, put a 17'' screen in there
-
You can say the same about m14x ~~.
The dv4t seem to have a "close" to 14" profile iirc. I have a friend that own a G series, and I always thought it is a 17" . I get to use a bit on it one day, and ding a 15".. -
By the looks of it, it's somewhere in between a 14" and 15.6" laptop's normal size. Judging by the size of the keyboard and the extra space at the side, it's safe to say it will be marginally smaller than the G55.
Though the low res screen is a bit of a let down, hopefully it's not the only configuration we can get. -
well if you look at it.. the G55 has 2 flavors .. bigger hard drive and more ram and visa versa with less i dont think its going to be much else.. for the most part with these screens arnt customizable do you think asus is going to diter from their history? I know for sure it wont be in the 1500+ range.. so 1,000-1,300 i would place my best bet on..just like the G55 I mean who would pay more for less? M14x $999 base config. So what you see is what you get.. Maybe alittle less ram for cheaper and smaller hard drive.
Edit: Actually.. The one in that mini preview is just a G46V Asus lists a G46VW. W for widescreen? Or this could just be pure BS since its late lol. But on the bottom of that Vietnamese one its just a G46V no W in sight.. -
Personally if you ask me, if the notebooks goes on sale with a base price of $999, I actually wouldn't really mind the low res. I've been stuck at 1366x768 for quite awhile so it's not too much of a con to me. Then again, in Malaysia quite some G55VW owners got screwed over when the Asus distributor introduced FHD versions of the G53SX at the same price right after they received their HD units.
W is the suffix for GPU I'm guessing. Like how the G53SW and G53SX differ mainly in their GPUs. -
ah ok thanks for the fast clarification still excited as long as shes not pushing 6.5 pounds which i hope she wont ill be more than happy with the low res.
-
6.5 pounds would be sweet. Considering the 15.6" Lenovo Y580 which packs roughly the same hardware weighs in at 6.2 pounds, it would be quite surprising if it is heavier.
-
I looked at all the 14" Asus notebooks available on xoticpc and gentechpc and none of them have the option to upgrade the screen to 1440x900, it's just the base resolution of 1366x768. That's probably not a good sign.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
that would be because you are looking at a 16:10 ratio, not a 16:9 one. also all the screens in the 14'' range offer poor res and poor colors, the highest available at this size is 1600*900, which asus dont use at all -
You're right, I meant 1600x900 was not available as an option. But my point was that there wasn't a higher resolution than 1366x768 available for those 14" notebooks. Which probably means a higher one won't be available for the G46VW. But that's just pure speculation. I hope I'm wrong.
-
As long as it keeps the low fan noise reputation like its larger sibling, this notebook should be able to trump the M14x R2 easily. Plenty of 900p LCD screens available, and should not be difficult to switch out if ASUS doesn't offer an upgrade.
-
The weight is not really an issue for portability, it is the dimensions and if you have a laptop where it is too wide and big, it is uncomfortable to use. 6-6.5lbs is a sweet spot weight for a 14" gaming laptop.
I had the G55 and honestly at 8.5lbs, it is not that heavy on my lap, the only thing that bothered me regarding its portability is the huge size since it is bigger than most 15" normal laptops. The size (dimensions) of it is close to a 16-17" laptops.
I'd rather have a dimensionally small laptop that is a bit thicker and a lil weight added into it if its a portable gaming laptop than have a anorexic macbook like or vaio z like feather weight laptop.
This is where Asus G46 or M14x shines. -
900p usually need a 40pin LVDS, don't know if they will use that or 20pin for 768p. It is pita to find ASUS parts.
-
I would consider weight more of an issue when it comes to portability than size. Then again, my idea of portable is a laptop that can be lugged over 2 miles a day without my back feeling sore. At least with a larger dimension, the weight is not clumped together but spread out, giving the impression that it is lighter than it is.
Usually they use the 20 pin. I heard of some people trying to swap out the 768p for a 900p only to be met with a semi functional screen due to the pin incompatibility. -
No 900p screen and this thing is dead in the water. Might as well buy the slightly larger 15" Clevo W350ETQ, which also has a GTX 660M, and get a nice 1080p screen. It's also only about $1k, which is probably less than this will be.
Oh and it only weighs 5.95lbs!
