So like many others probably, I recently purchased the G53SW-XN1 when newegg was offering there $100 rebate and it just arrived today. I am happy to say, I have detected no problems with mine, not that I expected any.

I have used the disassembly guide to throw in a Crucial M4 128GB SSD, and replaced the 2 GB DIMM under the Palm Rest with 2 G.Skill 4 GB DDR3-1333 DIMM's to give me a total of 12GB of memory, which is probably overkill for gaming IMO.

I am currently in the process of reinstalling Win7 HP using sarge_ & Chastity's linked driver pages. I have purchased the right angle power adapter which I have seen recommended here and expect it to arrive any day.

Does anyone have any experience replacing the DVD ODD with a Blu-Ray ODD? If so what were you experiences, how did you go about this, what model did you use, and were there any issues with the front Bezel, etc?

Does anyone have any other suggestions and/or recommendations on hardware/software for the G53SW?

Any suggestions for someone who has never really owned a 'Gaming' laptop before? I have a gaming desktop, and this was more of a impulse purchase once I saw the newegg deal come about.

So you did ALMOST the same thing I did with mine, except I just added a 4GB stick under the keyboard to up mine to 10 GB.

Only problems I had is first takes a lot of time to update windows. You'll need to do it 3-4 times once installed.

Second was that I my crucial drive takes a while to come back up when you close the lid or hibernate the laptop. I've heard that this can be fixed by updating the firmware for the drive.

I'm not sure where to find the software or how. I need time to look it up and figure it out. Maybe someone here will post a link and help us out????

I downloaded that file but there is no file with an .ISO extension in it....

I'm having probelms installing the update. It looks like the files on the download are for Linux users.

    Suggestions?

Yeah, I downloaded the link, unzipped it into a folder then burned it onto a DVDR. It has 2 files, a boot folder and I think the other was a note of some sort.

I tried rebooting after changing to IDE mode and booting from the disk as the instructions said and it didn't work. It crashed windows and I had to go back and change it back to AHCI mode.

The instruction say to burn the .ISO file but I did not find any *.ISO files in the download. There are a few that say linuxiso or isolinux in the title though.

I am going from memory though since I tried this last night.

Your link shows a file with the same name but it is an ISO file and not another zip file. Before when I opened the zip file it had a folder in it and no ISO file. I'll try it during lunch and see what happens.

Problem seems to be that wizip thinks ISO is a winzip file type? I open the disc with the ISO on it on one computer and its an ISO file but on my laptop it says its a WINZIP FILE.

Th eboot folder is still on the DVD, would that effect it at all?

In Win7 can't use just right click and then select 'Burn disc image' ?

I have the ISO file on the disk, does the name or extension change when I burn it to the DVD?

It sounds like you burned the iso to the cd rather than burning a disc image.

OK, soooo, when I burn the ISO file to CD or DVD it still shows the Boot folder and a Revision.txt file. And that doesn't work when I try to boot up with that.

I think I have a correctly made ISO disk now. Same problem still exists. I can't boot up from the CD. I change mode to IDE and boot from the disk and it goes to windows because it never properly boots from the disk or never properly opens the ISO file.

Going to check the boot drive order but I swear I already did!
