After an absolute headache of a time my Asus G53SX has arrived and now, it won't turn on.

I have the charger connected and the battery pack in, but after four hours and counting it still won't turn on. The charging light comes on but that's all the sign of life from the damn thing. I really hope I'm missing something obvious because this is going to be quite an effort to return.

When you hit the power button does nothing happen? Or the light go off when you do. The G53 has an issue with the power button I think if you mash it a good 20-30 times it will come on but this problem needs to be fixed if its brand new. It is common as well.

According to his signature, he's got the 460m, and the G53SX has the 128 bit 560m. :)

Ah my apologies I misread so no your G53 SX should not have the power button issue the old G53 had......hmmm wait for Chastity :)

Also the Asus version of the 560M is built into the motherboard on all of the new models it was mentioned.

When you press the power button, does your keyboard backlight turn on? Or does absolutely nothing happen? Remove your battery pack and then try switching your laptop on after plugging in your charger.

    PROBLEM FIXED!

Turns out the magnet that detects the lid closing had been knocked and lost its polarity. All that I needed to do was rub a magnet on the lower right corner, just outside the touchpad directly below the ALT key

That has actually been working as a fix for most of the power button issues on those machines. The disadvantage is when you close the lid it may reverse the polarity again so you will have to do that again.

What would happen then if you went into power options in Windows and set the "do nothing" option for "when lid is closed".

    It's in the advanced options.
