Hey, guys. Just picked up a G53SX w/ the 2x500GB hard drives. It came configured w/ 4 partitions (C,D,E,F).
Thinking of just merging the partitions into one per drive for simplicity and putting the page files and data on the second drive. Would mirroring the disks improve disk performance significantly? I'm seeing a WEI score for the disks of 5.9 currently.
I'm not sure if this actually has a hardware RAID controller (still reading manuals), so would I just set up the RAID via Windows?
Thanks!

None of the G series has hardware raid built in, you can only do a software raid. Good idea on the partitioning, I have 2 drives also C and D ...
From what I read to get a real performance boost you need to upgrade to an SSD as the boot drive. -
Mechanical disks are capped at 5.9 by windows. Don't worry about WEI anyways, the way the scores are presented renders it pretty meaningless. If you do want to boost your scores and speeds, a SSD is the way to go.

Thanks. I wasn't really planning on a new laptop right now, so I'd rather not spend the money on an SSD right now. I'll make due w/ what I got for now, and I'll just split my data like like I said above (OS/progs on C:, Temp Files / Page Files /Data on D

Is there any noticeable difference from software raid?

RAID on the Cheap: Windows 7 Software RAID vs. inexpensive “fake RAID” Kevin’s Blog
Interestingly, my main concern w/ software RAID was CPU utilization. Sounds like that's not much of an issue w/ Win7.
May have to do some more research and maybe a little testing of my own...
