    Hello everyone,

I just got my new G73JH from BB after searching for awhile it seems that this is the laptop that I have been looking for.

Let me backup just a few steps here this is the second one I have had I had to return the other due to GSOD while attempting to play games.

I have read over a lot of the posts on here and am somewhat lost as how to proceed, should I just turn around and return this one and begin looking for another laptop to play my games on or do you all have an y suggestions as to what I should attempt.

So far the laptop is completely stock no additional software or anything didn't want to install anything until I done some further research as to what others have been experiencing.

Any input would greatly be appreciated, seeing that I really like this laptop layout and have been looking to get this for quite some time now.

    Thanks before hand

Read the stickies. The JH can have some issues but they are correctable.

    Cheers,

Been reading over the stickies, especially Chastity's posts regarding flashing etc. Although I have been hesitant to do so as of yet due to just being nervous that I will screw something up.

One question I have is though, should i update any drivers off the start? Does the new Catalyst suite have any issues with the G73JH so far, if anyone knows that is.

    Thanks

If you update the drivers and don't have the correct bios and vbios you will experience wonderful crashes to go along with all that power. Most of the current JH's already have bios 211 (hopefully yours is up to date) so it's just the vbios you need to worry about. If you don't want to do the vbios update there are work-arounds for the crashes but they are not real substitutes for updating the bios. Besides if you don't update the vbios she (Chastity) will find you. :)

    I appreciate the replies Panzer06

I am running the new 211 bios version, so I assume all that I need to do is get the newest vbios that chastity has up, but are there any major issues that I need to look out for regarding installing this?

Sorry for so many questions, just dont want to screw anything up, took me awhile to talk the wife into letting me drop the cash for a new laptop lol

You and Valkyrie are better husbands than I. I don't ask.

Gary's instructions work. So does the vbios he's posted. Chastity's is the same but it enables overdrive. I don't use it and only run on AC and don't really over clock so I stuck with the official version from Gary. Both work, your choice.

Ok, last question and I believe I am going to give it a shot. Are there any major concerns that I should look out for as of following these instructions or, are they pretty much straight forward.

I have never flashed the vBIOS before just wanted to check with you that have.

Thanks so much for all the replies

Worked for me the first time. Just take your time and follow the instructions. Creating the bootable USB stick caused more trouble for people. Once you've created it press esc a couple of times while booting to bring up the boot menu. The USB stick should be one of the choices. I think I had to download winrar to open the archive file but it's been awhile. I have faith in your patience and skill. It will be fine.

    Cheers,

I just got my G73JH yesterday, and just flashed my vBIOS to the latest one Gary posted.

If you are scared, try to follow the link below. It's the same thing with similar instruction. Except it has a youtube video for you to follow.

    G73 GSOD Vbios Update

Everything works great so far, and what setting should i run BFBC2 on my G73JH? Ultra setting with full HD? It feels a bit jerky when i use that setting.

Now which ATI drivers should I download to get this bad boy up and running to full speed the ATI 10.8?

Excellent! I'm glad it worked well. I use and mobile 10.8 drivers. Everything works great. I'm mainly a Mac user so this system for games only. I use the AMD gpu tool to set the clocks to 700/1000 (default) at boot. That way it stays at default clocks and never downclocks. Since I am always connected to power, battery life is not an issue. This is for games only. I don't run anything else except occasional internet access.

    Cheers,

I've thought of doing this as well, do you think keeping clocks at 700/1000 will degrade your GPU life? I used to keep mine at 800/1100, but felt uneasy stressing my video card 24/7. Now I let it downclock at will, it still bounces back up as soon as I launch a game.

Good luck and have fun with it. Hope everything went well with you.

    Im using 10.10.

Slight increase in fps, and no lag when standing in smokey areas after a large explosion in Bad Company 2.

I doubt it. For me the only time I turn it on is to play a game or watch a blu-Ray movie so it would probably stay up most of the time. It's not like it sits powered on when I'm not playing. Besides I doubt I'll keep it for more than 2 years since there's always something more powerful coming out.
