Have a refurb X3 coming fedex, should be here tomorrow. I'm finally retiring my venerable, limping, 6-ish year old XPS M1710... Very much looking forward to some maxed out L4D, WoW and soon Skyrim (something I wasn't about to try on the old Core Duo T2500 - although the 512MB 7900GTX kept that machine relevant longer than I expected).

I'm reading up on the various bios fixes and 'first steps'. This is a great forum for Asus laptop help! It was key in me getting the option config I wanted — 1080, BT and 8GB. I'd have gone for the SW and USB 3.0 with the newer i7 but the average ebay pricing has jacked up the last week or two and I couldn't find one for under $900-950. Anyway, looks like the ATi is on par and I'm sure my video editing and Photoshop work will be much improved from the 2.0GHz Core Duo on my XPS.

So, just saying what up and don't be surprised to see me asking stupid questions soon. :D

    Welcome to the JH family.

Check the sticky at the top of this forum, it contains a lot of info and resources on the JH.

Your first steps would be to ensure you are on bios 211 or later and on the altest vBios. The rest of the tweaking is up to you.

Gratz on your JH :) I came from similiar but with 8700M GT SLI so I think you had a bit of an edge on me with the larger bus :D ahh the good old days.

You will be easily maxing out Warcraft and L4D and can easily push the boundaries of Skyrim as I was and Tijo is right study the posts on updating the BIOS and Vbios and make sure you have the latest drivers upto date. If you face hardware issues re overheating or touchpad problems there are plenty of discussions and fixes to sort this out for you. A couple of links in my sig if needed.

Enjoy it you wont regret it for the price you paid the thing is a beast and once upgraded will cruise along nicely!
