Hi everyone , im the proud owner of a new g73jh i got from ebay, i got lucky with a 6 gig of 1333 ram et and a LG Screen , so far i love this machine , it has a old bios 204, but its super stable never crashed

Concerning memory , on my bios it says i have 6 gigs , on cpu-z 6 gig
but in windows 7 x64, system it says i have 2 gig installed ,

so basically windows think i have 2 gigs instead of 6 gig ,what can i do to fix this problem? i thought of reinstalling windows 7 , but the recovery partition didnt exist for me to do a backup lol ,

in the msconfig boot sequence i just cant go higher than 2048 as well ,

its very wierd and its the only thing that block me from fully enjoying my G73 :D , thanks for your time guys and this forums rocks :)

Try moving the ram sticks to different slots?

Sounds like you only have the 32-bit version of Win7 installed. Can you double check by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties"?

    I had a similar issue.
I set my boot information to 4 GB of RAM, not knowing that it wouldn't use the other 2. When I checked the computer info, it said 6 GB installed, 4 GB usable or something like that.

I went to MSCONFIG and tried to up the RAM but it doesn't recognize the extra RAM. Just uncheck the RAM checkbox and reboot. Then see if anything changes.

32 bit should recognize up to 3 GB of RAM, since my Acer has 3 GB and Win Vista 32 bit

any other ideas guys ? , thanks for the help btw ,

oh and Kaelang, it does say 2 gigs installed , no other messages about the other 4 being usable it really think i have only 2 gigs :(

How curious. Where did you buy this computer? How long have you had this issue?

Shut the computer down. Open up the panel on the bottom and be sure there are three RAM sticks. If there are three, you may want to remove two of them and swich their positions. If nothing else, you either are missing 2 RAM sticks or 2 of your RAM sticks are dead.

If you continue to have this problem, a fresh Windows7 install should fix it.

You can try to rearrange and/or re-insert the RAM sticks and you might get lucky, but...

A small percentage of motherboards have a flaw with the RAM sockets (mentioned by a reseller here a few months back). I had the same problem and a motherboard replacement fixed it.

Just re-read his post. Got it from e-bay huh?

I wouldn't be surprised if two sticks are missing.

If your BIOS recognizes it but windows doesn't, its likely just a software issue. Fresh install will probably fix it.

Yep. Looks like you'll have to do a fresh install.

Let us know how it goes.

just finished reinstalling windows ultimate x64 , and i still got 2gig only installed with the bios saying i got 6gig , this is weird im out of ideas? should i remove one stick at at time to test?

edit: removed a stick and windows now says i had 4 gig , i dont like the sound of it , err also one of the stick seem to be unreachable unless i unscrew inside ?

second edit: okay it seem that it detect 6 gig with switching the 2 rams over,

now i have to reinstall all the software/drivers for this laptop , sadly i had no partition , anyone know which drivers/software i should install on a fresh startup?

i read somewhere that creative software is no where to be found if you dont have a backup , but for the rest?

Thanks for all the help guys ! :D

There is a RAM stick on the other side of the motherboard, yes. You'll have to completley disassemble it.

Take out the other RAM stick that is located under the laptop and just switch the slots with the RAM and see what happens.

    The obvious issue here is:

That is not normal. Is it possible that this machine was, say, returned to Best Buy by someone else, who somehow broke it?

It should not be possible for you to get a new machine which doesn't have the recovery partition to do the backup. That's a big red flag -- the standard disk, as shipped, has a recovery partition. There is no legit way it could just disappear...
