I downloaded it and tried to install but it said there was some error in some file or while trying to unpack a file or something. So couldn't install it. Re-installed 2.63.

What problems do you need a driver update to fix? What performance issues do you have you are looking for improvements on?

Have you noticed any changes at all from upgrading from the default drivers on the driver CD your laptop came with and what has been updated on Realtek's site?

Personally I've never noticed any differences at all and never had any driver issues related to Realtek.

I can't use these drivers. My Creative Audio Center software doesn't recognize them. Don't know a workaround so I'm stuck with R2.61 or whatever I'm using. I'd love to install them but I like Creative Audio Center. I listen to podcasts of sermons and I can add the effect to make it sound like I'm in the audience listening.

Honestly I use head phones or external speakers 95 % of the time, I have been tempted to upgrade to another package but becasuse I have had a few issues (not sound related) I am hesitant to change anyting at this point if it works. I am no audio expert, but when I use the internal speakers they play loudly and clearly.

Just gotmy Asus G74SX, did a clean install of Win 7. Installed the R2.64 x64 from Realtek with no problem. Also installed Creative THX from support disc.

I dont know if it is the speakers or software but the sound is poor when using intenal speakers..Using headphones and the sound is loud and good. Maybe i should have installed the realtek from support disc?!

Use your common sense. The drivers for Realtek have nothing to do with the performance of your speakers. Speakers are simple analog devices that just play when given voltage. Nothing more. Too bad, you discovered laptop speakers suck. Welcome to reality of a 1" speaker.

+1, I've been using these for a couple days now have no issues. Works great with the modded X-Fi.

About common sense, what you are saying is that a bad driver can´t mess up the audio. So a bugged driver for a graphic card cannot mess up a game or windows! Same thing!

For drivers its usually a messed install that causes issues. Realtek drivers have been consistent as far as I remember.

And this isn't even an question of bugged drivers, but of whether was there any noticeable or substantial changes in sound production from these new drivers.

Common sense would then tell you its a driver update with tiny bugfixes and not a magical new soundcard.
