    hello friends!

Once you get a great discount, I Acquire Windows 8 Pro for only 14 Dollars! About R$ 29,00 in my local currency
And so begins my problems, and I'm sure to you too!

After the big mistake that Microsoft made in Windows 8 in questing appearance and ease of use to the desktop, I still had hopes that Windows 8 would be faster! Incredible!

Truth is that the WINDOWS 8 is not faster, not in G73

You will see! you lost about 10% in performance!

First problem I have is with overclocking the processor.
Overclocked Performance graph Cai your lot! in my case I use a 164Mhz FSB, have lost up to 20% in graphics

I know I had this problem in Windows 7.
However the solution does not work in Windows 8
    I tried! Works not!

Edit: I managed to solve this problem. Truth in the solution windows 7 runs on Windows 8, however, only works after restart. if you simply Off and On, will not work.
    Link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-pinmod-overclocking-methods-examples-80.html

for now, This is My Main Problem!

Let's Topic Use this to find solutions to these new problems
We will also create a list of the Windows 8 Suitable Driver
    including of Applications Asus

But I believe that Windows 7 will be in our Sure pelomenos Life plus 10 Years :)

That's not true...I've upgraded my Asus G73Jw as well, my system boot time is 13s, I don't think Windows 7 is faster here.
I've made some framerate measurements in different games and they run smoother in Windows 8 than in Windows 7, look here:
Windows 8 vs Windows 7 Performance
The "Metro" UI is a matter of taste, I've adjusted the UI to my needs and get along very well.
What's the exact problem? You've installed the correct drivers? and where's the link for the procedure/solution in Win7?

My notes of windows 8 are:

    7.3 CPU
    7.6 Memory
    7.1 Graphics
    7.1 Graphs games
    5.9 HD

My Notes of Windows 7 Are:

    7.3 CPU
    7.6 Memory
    7.3 Graphics
    7.3 Graphs games
    5.9 HD

I can not say that the way of calculating in Windows 8 Equals, more notes of CPU and Memory They were the same.

About your problem with the Turbo, you can solve this by downloading link http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/P4GHybrid/Power4Gear_Hybrid_WIN7_64_z1137.zip

    Windows 7
    7.1 CPU
    7.3 Memory
    7.1 Graphics
    7.1 Graphs games
    7.8 HD

    Windows 8
    7.1
    7.3
    7.2
    7.2
    7.8

I've noticed most of my games running the same speeds, some DirectX 11's running smoother, and some DirectX 9's running a bit slower.
Also I have this issue with my jh going to sleep after 2 mins of not being used, even with my sleep settings turned off. in every way possible. Registry, Power shell and power controls.

    as for this
"cant find ATK OSD (you know those shiny ikons when you lower brightnes , turn on/off wifi etc) solved"
    How did you solve that?

    @maykon_helver, @eldragon0:
The new PowerIndex in Windows 8 goes from 1.0 to 9.9, the one in Windows 7 from 1.0 to 7.9. They improved it to get a wider range of results, in Win7 it was no problem to get a 7.9 Overall with a non enthusiast system.
    My Windows 8 index:
    7.6 CPU
    7.6 Memory
    7.3 graphics
    7.3graphics
    7.6 primary HDD

The shiny icons from the ATK package are also gone, but I don't miss them, the keys are working for me and this is counting, but it's always appreciated if someone has a solution.

the Shiny icons aka ATKOSD2 are working in windows 8
if you install ATKOSD2 it creates a startup shortcut to the app (now this way it wont work , can't figure why)
    but
after the windows boots end task the program with task manager and reopen it manually and there magicaly the shiny icons will appear
the only thing i can remember is maybe the program startup time needs to be delayed becouse windows overwrite something

are you sure this way the Twin turbo is working with that version ? have you tested it
i have installed newer version of Power4hybrid v2.1 and the twin turbo button is not working with that version

and the Turbo button works as in Windows 7.
    asus and other options too!

Today, After Reinstalling Windows 8 already with all the drivers that I had tested.

Here's the solution, if you want the onscreen shiny icons from the ATK package:
Open the ATK package install directory: e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATKOSD2
Execute ATKOSDMgr.exe and there you can check the box to display them.

yeah but when you turn off the wifi , disable touchpad , adjust keyboard light , turn off display you dont have icons when changing if you dont install the ATKOSD
but when i installed ATKOSD i get the icons except when i adjust brightness of the monitor i see both icons (the one from windows and the one from ATKOSD)
you see where i am going :)

p.s do you keep Rapid storage at startup (C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology\IAStorIconLaunch.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology\IAStorIcon.exe)
i have a proccess at startup called delayed launcher

the driver can function without it or not ?
is it safe to remove it ?

GUys....Have you had issues when updating the Broadcom and other network drivers from windows update? I formatted my windows 8 4-5 times because everytime I finished install, it was fine, then I updated windows, installed the additional optional downloads + installed the intel chipset driver. Then...the freezing starts. Windows just freezes and hangs.

Also..watch out...ATI 12.11 causes BSOD with atikmdg.sys....when using HDMI in windows 8 and also windows 7. So stick with 12.10 and its stable so far. Only thing needed more is power4gear hybrid and also... whether we can get away without the intel chipset driver.

There is lower performance in games for me. I have done a side by side comparison (one HDD in my G73 has windows 8 and the other windows 7). GTA 4 runs terrible at same settings with windwos 8 with constant micro pauses/stuttuers. Windows 7 with same ATI driver is perfect as before.

[G73JH] can someone make some benchmarking with NFS Most Wanted
    mine performs not so good
had to turn off Shadows and Geometry Detail completely

and btw i wouldn't use drivers from windows update at all (except if the manufacturer doesnt provide it)
you have everything at manufacturers site

    my bluetooth is working fine
    WLAN good so far

i have experienced only one freeze but probably becouse of some non compliant driver when i was trying
    for now i am good

vraev if you have both OS can you test some game and measure with software FRAPS (best way to measure frames) and maybe post someting

    hi
Definitely Not Windows 8 will be my System!I can not take this system seriously. all very colorful.
Not good, the system can even start a little faster (Obvious with the system almost naked) However I will not open the hand, Beauty, Efficiency, Security, Stability and Convenience that Windows 7 offers me!
I'm sure the majority thinks like me!

Windows 8 might even get along with Tablets, Low system cost, smartphones,
no more was thought to be used on Notebooks and Desktops

They could at least give us the option of setting it as Desire.
they want us to accept what do they impose Did! They were wrong!

This is only my opnion! Thank you!

I purchases a windows 8 upgrade keys so clean installation is not a solution for me. ( Although i tried and it works better ) . I wonders if its have to do with bios system. i checked on the asus.com for information and found out that g73jh does not support windows 8

NfS:MW runs great on my G73Jw machine (Geforce driver 310.33BETA), settings are maxed out. I suppose it could be driver related, you have an AMD card, right? (5870m?) Which driver do you have installed? 12.10WHQL?

No, I don't agree with you. Windows 8 brings some great advantages to desktops/laptops, if you don't deal with the new interface and not adapte to the needs, it comes to such statements.
When you upgraded to Win8, was there did you're data get wiped? or everything was there after the update? If there was no wipe, I would strongly recommend to uninstall every driver and install the available Win8 drivers.
Edit: About (non)support, if I'm right this has to do with the license provided by Microsoft, for example back, when you purchased the notebook there was a WinVista or Win7 sticker on the palm rest, which indicates that this is an official supported product.

I found a solution to ALL these problems.
Format the HDD and install windows 7. All issues fixed AND you get a working OS!!

Seriously my company gave me pro so I popped in a second HDD and dual booted it. Used it for about 2 days. Worst OS ive ever used in my life.

Hey Guys, Got Windows 8 running well on my G73JH (LOVE the new bootup time!!), but having one annoying problem... it will after sleep/standby load back up but the screen stays blank/black and requires a hard shutdown with the power button... running ATI 12.10's and have the Intel Chipset driver, ATK package, and latest realtek drivers installed. I did just reinstall and upgrade to a new Samsung 840 Pro SSD, but I had the problem before on my previous W8 install as well on the HDD.

As for Wifi, no I haven't had any connection issues at all, and I'm only using the stock windows 8 driver it loaded during install.

Has anyone that has installed Windows 8 on a G73JW tested the USB 3.0 port? Do you get high speed 3.0 performance with 3.0 drives? If it's working... are you using the USB 3.0 driver bundled with W8 or the USB 3.0 for W8 from the FRESCO site?

    Hi
I'm using the Fresco Win8 64bit driver v3.5.73 from the Asus support site. No issues here, normal USB3.0 speed 60-80Mb write, 100-120mb read with my Transcend 32Gb stick and slightly higher rates with external USB3 drives.
Thanks for the link, I think I'm going to update my driver to the newest version (v3.5.88) :)

Its the intel chipset driver and the broadcom drivers which cause major issues and freezing. Unfortunately a clean install was the only way to go. I just installed current realtek drivers, ati drivers, atk package for windows 8. Thats about it....and the system runs rock stable. Just issues with games.

Been a bit busy with work lately and have a major presentation tomorrow. Will do some benchmarks in GTA4 this weekend comparing 7 and 8. Can't wait for the gaming issues to be sorted and I will wipe my win 7 HD and make the final move to 8.

Thanks for the help, have a fresh install and not going to install the chipset driver this time and see how it goes... thanks for the tip.

Curious, which ATK version did you use? I've been using the .24 version posted elsewhere, curious if that is any part of the problem before I install it... with stock W8 drivers and only the Realtek updated it's been very stable, hate to ruin it again!

    Hi all,
did some one already found a solution to have the intel chipset driver running stable? have the same problem, when installing the optional updates via windows update, the system starts freezing. did a clean install and used only stock drivers, everything seems to be running stable for the moment.
i want to be able to use intel rapid storage for my intel SSD so I would appreciate solution...
    thanks!
