I guess we have to wait until 26th, but it sounds like it is going to be really expensive.

wow amazing. intel came out with it years ago only to brush it under the rug becasue they couldnt figure out how to make a driver work. lets hope seagate does not follow in the same foot steps. Robson i believe was the code name and i spent a week making it work to find out that it looks like a golden egg ONLY on paper. What is wrong with the current intel ssd drives? I am a fan of them and i doubt seagate invented anything here

Looks like a SSD/HDD hybrid drive to me, and it's not something new.

It boosts gaming performance by 150 percent?

Does that mean it runs at 150 percent of old G73's... or 250 percent?

I think they mean it boosts performance by 50 percent...

So this means that it is having two of the new Momentus XT 500GB@7200rpm drives that seems to have 4GB SLC-NAND-Flash integrated into them in addition to 32MB cache.

These are not that expensive. I have seen them being already listed for about 128 euros.

But what I wonder is how much in reality a performance boost would they provide.

I guess we have to wait for some benchmarks.

If the Seagate 'game-changing' claim would really stand then I will be really interested in ordering 2x500GB for my N71JQ.

Is the g73 model the best Asus has in terms of gaming?

Exactly, picture this, G73Jh-A1 with two Momentus XT 500GB@7200rpm drives and that's the only difference, however, because the limited quantity it'll only be available on Amazon and Newegg for $1899.

For what I know it won't be perform as fast as they said it should be. ;)

That's what I was also thinking.
I don't know how much extra advantage would a 4GB SLC make?
I think soon there would come out some benchmarks which will indicate how much speed improvement these Hybrid drives will provide over the traditional 7200rpm drives.

Is that extra 4GB set up as a dedicated partition on the drive?

And soon to be rising in price since we know the Amazon and Newegg vendors price gouge on demand.

well I'll be one of the first OFFICIAL 'owners' to have this A1 laptop ... since I won it on May 26th. Mind you, I won't actually have it probably for a month or so, since Seagate seems to be ignoring my emails to find out the ship date etc.

BUT if the info that was in the Webcast is true, then it'll be truly game changing. Of course, only TIME will tell right?

Not really seeing how it's "game changing" seeing as at it's best it's just shy of an SSD. I do like the more cost-effective nature of it though.

Asus loves putting out tons of models though, don't they?!

Congrats. You'll love the lappy, and most of the problems here are recognized as being the slight, slight minority - and all have fixes available! (update your bios!)
