Ok after having this laptop (Asus M61j) for 6 months im getting tired of it and want a new one lol :)
I am not very updated in the newest Asus laptops, so im hoping you guys could help me out:

I have the money to buy them both but im a little confused on what to go for.
    - I want a laptop that is quiet, or doesnt make a lot of noise. When gaming it is ok for it to growl, but not when idling or surfing the web etc.
    - I want a laptop that is good enough for gaming, but still doesnt get uncomfortably hot when using it.
    - Im going to use it mainly in my room on a desk, but it -could- be that im taking it with me to a friends house

That in mind, can anyone help me with the pros and cons of the two laptops G73 and G51? I`m thinking of getting a SSD disk aswell instead of HDD, and i would really like to swap out the extra HDD on the G73 to nothing. Only using 1 storage drive. Is that something the shops (xoticpc or gentech) could help me with? And do you think i will get the laptop cheaper if i let them have it?

Lot of questions here, thanks for the help :)

check my sigs for issues, updates etc. :)

no, the g73 isn't hot. upgrade your thermal paste to ic diamond. at stock thermal and just browsing, the gpu shouldn't go past 65c. also, the vents are in the back so nothing to worry about.

there are many different models of the g73 such as g73jh-a1, or a2, or b1 (new), or jw, etc. Just find the one you want.

edit - yes its quiet. very good for gaming.

    cloudfire link to the g53.

the g51 isn't bad its just a little outdated with a C2D and has either a 9800gt or a 260 while new laptops have i3,i5,i7 etc and way better dedicated graphics cards.

if your looking to game g73 would be your answer. everyone added SSD's to their g73 no doubt about that. might want to read the g73 thread also!

good luck on your search OP

Check my sig for the specs on my G51...I got this last Novemeber, so I'd say 'outdated' isn't the correct term.

The only issue I have with my G51 are the temps. My GPU and processors will get over 70C just running AutoCAD, not even doing any rendering. I've heard of temps going over 100C when doing intense gaming. Hopefully the G53 uses a cooling system similar to the G73, which I've used and find to be quite cool and quiet.

    Good luck!
