Havn't had this before, it turns off when I pick it up.

    YouTube - MOV04053

Off to RMA. At least, I hope it avoids RMA hell, and comes back fixed. I don't really care WHERE it goes, so long as it gets fixed.

Wow, thats quite the problem. Only on the side with the AC adapter huh? Tried it while only on battery power? Or maybe its an HDD problem, like lifting it on that side (thats the side with the primary hdd correct?) causing the laptop to stop reading from the hdd, a sata connection problem? Im sorta at a loss, sorry to see this happen buddy :(

Not a HDD problem, I took out the primary one out and it still does it. *sigh*

Not a battery issue either, it does it w/ battery, w/o battery, w/ AC and w/o AC (but w/ battery, of course).

How many times have you taken it apart? Maybe some part of the motherboard is damaged or loose?

Odd that it would only start happening recently. And obviously not a heat problem as that video shows it occurring too quick.

I seem to remember reading in one of the posts around here that the G series, or at least those for the JH, the RMAs would by default go to the Cali center, though I know you already said you dont care where it goes

I had exactly the same issue with my old Acer took me days to figure it out. The DVD drive had come loose and everytime I moved it would short out just like yours but then turn on perfectly fine.

It was like a mm out that was it and everytime i lifted or nudged it 'tick' gone, really hope its that simple for you worth a look. Otherwise it must be shorting out somewhere else if as you say it does it when its on battery as well. I would put my money on a number johnny five.

I would open it up and see if there's any wires where there aren't suppose to be.

HAHHAHA cali center, I wish. I got asus indy a month ago - I had to take phone pics of their pasting job so everyone in my office and me could laugh at it.

They also gave my keyboard extra freaking FLEX!!!!!! And they'd only replace it if I ship it to them or gave them CC info before they ship one. I'd rather strangle them.

So I'm ordering a ansi russian g73 keyboard for my us g73 :)

DCx - your youtube is 401'ing on me.. I think its me atm

It's not a wire/disassembly problem, since it has just started happening. Normally, I'd call BS on someone who claimed a problem started occuring with absolutely no change ... but the only thing that has changed is the fact that I lift it up to move it around 2-3 times a day. I've been doing that for the last 3 months (thesis work), and it only just started doing this. No drops, no spills, no shocks ... just wear and tear.

It's off to the Markham, Ontario facility.

Sure its not what I said the dvd drive? as I said mine shorted out just by touching it and you do put your hands either side when lifting it up.

Ummm are you looking for an apology?

I live in SoCal, so pardon me if I didnt pay attention to the post as carefully as one might expect. Perhaps it was just Chastity and/or Gary trying to reroute as many JH RMA's as possible. Plus you're in Washington DC, about as far east coast as you can get in the states. EDIT: Oh, and about the keyboard, same happened to mine after its second RMA, fold up a post-it or two and stick it under there, problem solved.

DCx - I read Ontario and immediately thought of the city right next to me  completely forgot that your up in Canada huh, anyways, goodluck :)

Why would I look for an apology? That is idiotic. Frankly the RMA service is full of imcopotent imbeciles. Big deal, they screwed up my KB and won't RP it the way I want. I will fix it and replace it per me and never buy a asus non-netbook again. Whats the big deal. Also I've only been in DC a few short bit for work.

DCx - That's unsual w/ the video. I can't think of much beside loose connections via power like mentioned. RMA as your still in warranty time, its very odd. I've never seen that exact behavior of hardware (assuming theres constant pwr via battery) and not just plug.

Lol my point exactly, it is indeed idiotic. Yet you seemed to have been complaining to me about your poor RMA experience, over something I may* have gotten wrong. Thats all.

It was in comment to what was probably wrong. Like all jh/g series possibly going to a certain or cali service center. Regardless, I was giving my input of if they did go cali - mine didn't. So my experience was w/ indy and they were terrible in craftsmanship. Kinda goes hand in hand w/ posts here over the last year and a half.

And besides, how is it "complaining to you" when this is a forum and not a 1 on 1 session. It wasn't anything directed to you besides the send location comment. Yet here you are phrasing it like this. How rich

Has dcx made any headway his power cutting out when lifting up the side of his g73?

Then all that was needed was "I beg to differ" followed by your experience or something along those lines; no need for the hysterical laughter (?). Of which you did quote me, making it 1v1. Furthermore I never said you were complaining to me, I said it seemed like you were (and even then I said it seemed like you wanted an apology with a question mark), hence the quote.

Ok ill try it your way
Its comments like that, that make me believe your coming after me, as Im doing my best not to perform the converse. And attempting to keep this thread on topic is a bit futile. DCx is a vet, he likely just wanted to share what was going on (maybe thats why he didnt ask for help), or hes figured it out or has sent it in already. The only reason Im replying, is again, because your quoting me. Im sure itll be no-time before a mod locks this thread down, or it simply dies out because DCx has already got it sorted out.

Maybe a wire or the chassis is pressing (warp) on the reset button?
You will find it on the backside of the motherboard next to the sdcard-reader.
    Look at the red circle.

I just thought I'd post my current problem before I sent it in. I'm pretty sure I know what it is (If you take off the bottom panel, you can see the case flex, which causes a short), and it's simple plastic fatigue.

Not much to be "fixed" on my end, and it definitely doesn't fall under normal wear and tear, so asus is going to fix it.

I've also made it clear that I want my touchpad replaced (I've got a wonky one, but generally use a mouse), and since they'll probably replace the top case ANYWAYS ...

We'll see what they replace. I was okay dealing with the wonky touchpad, but if I'm sending it in anyways, they'd better fix ALL the problems.

probably that turning off problem can be solved if you dissasamble (but that is just probably)

Doubtful. I could watch the frame make contact with the mobo and short out when the plastic bent - the plastic fatigue isn't really something you fix, it's something you replace.

But yeah, I do want a fixed mousepad.

Called asus. Their solution for this problem was ....

    Replace top case.
    Replace touchpad.
    Replace motherboard.
    Replace bottom case.

Looks like it'll arrive tomorrow. I also clarified the "fix or replace" policy with the agent, apparently it's up to the techs to decide whether or not the computer gets replaced when it is sent in for repair.

If this comes back un-repaired, I'm sending it back in with my 6 "repair" sheets from my 6 RMAs and requesting a unit that doesn't require so many repairs... though maybe I'll ask Chastity nicely to pass the word along first (she seems to work some sort of magic).

Just came back, and it appears to be functioning correctly. Off to run a furmark and make sure they didn't bork the repaste when they switched the mobo.

Edit: Well, the repaste isn't TERRIBLE, my temps didn't go up much ...

*sigh* And the mouse, well, the mousepad has been working OKAY so far. We'll see what happens over teh next week or two.

EDIT: Mousepad - same as the last one. Fine for awhile, then all touchy and such.
