Hi everyone. I have an i7 2630QM 2.00 GHz Intel, 8.00 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce GTX 460M, G73Sw series.
I'm really, REALLY a newbie (I barely know what Overclock is, and never done it), and I would really appreciate some help on how to take advantage of my laptop to play some games. I've been having trouble playing any Assasin's Creed, lot of issues with Skyrim and other problems, mainly in the FPS and shadow department (I think dynamic shadows are always blocky on my laptop). So, what things should I do? what should I upgrade and where? How to tweak my laptop's graphics? Do I need to overclock? Whats Throttlestop, and how do I use it properly without burning my machine?
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me...

The problem with the G73Sw notebooks is that the CPU speed drops randomly from 2 GHz. and above to 798 Mhz.
This is a well known issue and ASUS has not released a BIOS update to fix this since 1 year which is why gamers face random slow downs in games.
This solution worked for me: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...869-unofficial-bios-fix-throttling-g73sw.html
It is a modified BIOS by one of the members here that disables this stupid throttling down feature.
This is not overclocking, this is just running your laptop the way it was designed to work.
I wouldn't recommend overclocking a laptop myself because any extra heat and you might fry your laptop.
To make that above guide easier,
all you need to do is:
1) Download the BIOS from HERE
2) Copy the BIOS which you just downloaded to a USB Flash Drive. MAKE SURE THE USB FLASH DRIVE IS FORMATTED IN FAT OR FAT32 FILE SYSTEM NOT NTFS OTHERWISE YOU WILL BRICK YOUR LAPTOP AS THE BIOS UPDATE WILL FAIL IF THE FLASH DRIVE IS NOT FAT OR FAT32
3) Restart your laptop with the USB Flash Drive inserted then keep pressing DELETE to get the boot menu, then ENTER SETUP
4) Go to the 2nd page of the BIOS setup, then select EASY FLASH
5) You should see your USB Flash Drive there listed and the file G73SW TFIX SLIC.205
6) Select that file and hit enter to start the BIOS update
7) After the update is done (usually takes about 60 seconds), the Laptop will shutdown, that is normal
8) Turn on your notebook again and hit DELETE continously to get the boot menu, then ENTER SETUP
9) Press F9 to load the Optimized Default settings, then exit saving the changes
10) Once you are in Windows, if you want to test that you did it right, download the MSR Tool, then extract the files in the ZIP, and run MSR.exe
11) In the MSR Number, type: 0x1fc
12) Click Read MSR. Under the EAX box, you should see " 0x0004005E", E being the key here that BD-PROCHOT is disabled (it will be F, it means PROHOT is still enabled).
Enjoy your super fast laptop now with no slowdowns -
Thanks man, just dit what you told me and everything went right. Thanks for your kindness, and I hope it goes back to you in any possible way.
