Just noticed that Newegg is now selling the G73jh-X1 for $1649. That's $200 more than they originally sold it for and is the same price that other retailers sell the g73 with BlueRay and 1TB Hard Drive.

I use to trust Newegg as having the best pricing coupled with customer service.

When I went to chat with an agent at Newegg today and questioned the pricing, he cut me off and stopped the chat.

Oh well. I may have to buy it for the $200 extra cause it's the only place that gets them in stock on a regular basis.

Newegg is still great dispite the "supply and demand" pricing. Amazon is guilty of the same thing though. I still order things from newegg regardless. When I picked up mine I got it for 1429, and then the nextday it was up to 1499 because the numbers were dwindling so fast. Its basically built into the site to do so.

There is an increased demand to buy this notebook through a well known supplier such as Newegg. Some call it simple supply and demand, others call it price gauging. Whatever you call it, Newegg will still sell every single unit.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for capitalism all the way. Just was a little disappointed that Newegg would do it. Just considered them my "go to" place for best pricing. I buy alot of items there monthly to feed my appetite for pc gear and for builds I do for others. I have a preferred account with them so that I can always get what I need.

On another note, it seems one of our local BB's has the G73 in. I don't really need this as a desktop replacement so I could settle for the lower res, no BT version to save $400-$500. My biggest hurdle right now is convincing the wife that I need this laptop. I'm using her hand down HP ze4500 from 2004 to type this.

Yeah, I'd say Newegg is price gouging. It's $50 more than when I bought it earlier this month. But, if you want it, Newegg has it. Well, I think they are out of stock now though.

A G73 in hand beats one on perpetual preorder.

No it doesn't I would rather wait 1-2 months and have another drive and Bluray. I would kinda concider that free in comparison. And I will buy my stuff from other places than Newegg. They can sell it for what they want I can buy from wherever I want. Just think if all the vendors did that.

It's a matter of personal taste. I don't watch or purchase blu-ray discs. So, the lack of a blu-ray drive didn't factor into my purchasing decision. Nor did the lack of a second harddrive factor into my decision to purchase (or not) from Newegg either. I have plenty of portable, external drives plus less heat in the machine overall. Two harddrives makes your machine that much hotter which becomes more of a factor in a gaming machine such as the G73.

The truth is...is that the larger retailers will always get stock quicker than smaller, specialty retailers because they simply bring more revenue for ASUS.

Some of the folks who had a preorder at one of the specialty retailers probably canceled after getting one from Newegg, Microcenter or, now, Best Buy. I don't blame them considering how hard it is to obtain now.

If the two drives were in a raid striped configuration I would have been all over that. Since they aren't I picked up an X1.

I wonder how many folks will buy an A1/A2 then quickly install an SSD drive for the OS?
